Scion xD
Scion xD
Tested version: Base 4-cyl (shown)
CR Model Summary
The Scion xD is a boxier version of the Toyota Yaris. The car's small size and stiff suspension make it nimble. On all but the smoothest pavement, the body makes short jumpy movements, and the highway ride feels jittery. The 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine delivers only adequate performance but is miserly with fuel. We averaged 29 mpg overall with the automatic and 34 with the manual. The cabin is noisy and the driving position is awkward. The firm front seats are comfortable for people who fit them; our larger drivers likened them to small perches, with the short cushion giving inadequate thigh support. The rear has plenty of room for two adults, but three is a crowd. The xD has optional stability control and a lot of standard features for its low price.
