Eric Evarts grew up playing in the cavernous back end of a VW camper, then graduated to playing under its tiny engine lid. While working on a journalism degree in college, he spent as much time as possible in the vehicle engineering lab studying solar cars and diesel-engined speed-record vehicles. A car nut virtually since birth, he joined Consumer Reports as Associate Autos Editor after eight years as the car writer and general automotive guru at The Christian Science Monitor. He lives in Connecticut with his wife and daughter. In his spare time he enjoys biking, kayaking, skiing basically anything that moves, other than the lawnmower.
