The Avalanche has a compliant ride and a quiet cabin. It's the only full-size pickup truck with a unified cab and cargo bed, which allows expansion of the cargo area into the cabin. The locking cover makes the bed waterproof and secure. Handling lacks agility but is ultimately secure. The engine is not particularly refined and returns 14 mpg overall. Towing and payload capacity is less than other full-sized pickups, but is still capable. The 4WD system can remain engaged indefinitely. The optional rear-view camera is a big help in reversing safely. The high bed makes loading cargo an effort. Reliability has been above average. The Avalanche is slated to be discontinued.
