Chevrolet Malibu Overview

The Malibu offers three four-cylinder drivetrains, having dropped the V6 option with the redesign. The Eco version uses a mild-hybrid electric assist system that smoothly shuts off and seamlessly restarts the engine when it would be idling. We got 29 mpg overall in our tests. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder and six-speed automatic returned 26 mpg. It is a comfortable and very quiet midsized sedan, with a cushy ride. Handling is sound, but gets soggy at its limits. The well-finished interior has simple, straightforward controls, and trunk room is sufficient in the hybrid. But the backseat is cramped and Chevrolet's pricing makes the car a questionable value. A quick 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder is also available.
