About - Sony Alpha 6000

The Alpha 6000 is a 24-megapixel camera with a kit lens that has a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24mm-75mm. It has a 2.9-inch LCD (921,600 pixels) that swivels. It also includes an electronic viewfinder, which is helpful when composing in bright light.

Because it accepts interchangeable lenses but does not have a mirror and through-the-lens viewfinder, we consider this model a mirrorless SLR-like camera.

The camera's kit lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5. The camera's shutter speed range is 30 seconds to 1/4000 of a second.

The Alpha 6000 stores photos and video on SD/SDHC/SDXC/MemoryStick Duo memory cards but has no on-board storage. It captures images as JPEG or RAW files at a top resolution of 6000 x 4000 and full HD-resolution video as MP4 files at a top resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a frame rate up to 60p and 60i fps.

The image stabilization system for this camera is optical.

The Alpha 6000 measures 5.1 inches wide by 2.7 inches high by 1.9 inches deep, and weighs 12 ounces (with battery, memory card, and strap).

About This Brand

Sony offers innovations at relatively high prices. Cyber-shot compacts offer distinctions such as touch screen LCDs and sleek bodies. Some larger models include very long optical zooms. The W series are budget lines and the T series is waterproof. High-end H series superzoom point-and-shoots are available with and without Wi-Fi. Most RX-series cameras are advanced point-and-shoots with high-end SLR features that fit in your pocket. Some of these RX-series models include Wi-Fi. Sony has expanded its Alpha series significantly and offers cameras for every advanced camera user and budget, including models that have very large, full-frame sensors and special features, such as a High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature. It also has a wide range of lenses. Its mirrorless Alpha series models include key SLR features, such as interchangeable lenses, but will have the small size and weight of a point-and-shoot. Its wireless Cyber-shot QX series are portable “camera units” that clip onto--and are meant to be used wirelessly with--your smart phone.

Great travel camera !!
Best Uses
Wanted to get a DSLR, and I found this instead. I love the fast auto focus. B&H highly recommended this camera. I have been playing with the camera for the entire time I have had it, finally set it up the way I wanted. It takes some playing with use it, but once you get it going, there is no stopping the options available on the camera.

Upgrade from a point and shoot. It was what I was looking for, or so I thought. Did LOTS of research, but the camera didn't produce consistent quality images for me. Tried 2 cameras, but ended up returning for a DSLR.

One-to-three months
Bottom Line
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hobby Photography
I purchased this after graduating from a point-n-shoot camera. My only suggestion is to take a photography class to learn all the features. Same features as Cannon/Nikon just in different spots. Plus, you can take amazing photos not just on the automatic setting.
How long have you owned it:
More than six months
Bottom Line
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
