Ford Fusion Overview

The stylish Fusion is a delight to drive. All versions feel solid and upscale, with a supple ride, agile handling, and a quiet cabin. The main engines are now a 1.5-liter and a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, both mated to a six-speed automatic. We averaged 24 and 22 mpg overall, respectively--OK but not stellar. The 1.6-liter turbo comes only with a manual transmission. The 1.5-liter does the job, but the 2.0-liter is a lot punchier. Our Fusion Hybrid averaged an excellent 39 mpg overall. There is also a plug-in version called the Energi. All versions have a nicely finished cabin with comfortable seats, but the rear is somewhat snug. Reliability has been mixed: the 2.0 EcoBoost and 2.5-liter versions are average; others below average.
