2021 Model Redesign Year

This formidable South Korean luxury midsized sedan is serious competition for German and Japanese rivals. It comes standard with a responsive 300-hp, 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder combined with a slick-shifting eight-speed automatic. There's also a punchy 375-hp, 3.5-liter turbo V6. All-wheel drive became standard for 2024. A fully electric version with 365 hp from dual motors and an EPA-rated 282-mile range is available. The ride is plush, handling is sharp, and braking is top notch.

Fit and finish is impressive yet understated. The cabin is roomy, and the seats are comfortable front and rear. The G80 was refreshed for 2025. Among significant changes were a large 27-inch single screen that replaced the previously separate infotainment and gauge cluster displays, revised front and rear fascia, and touch climate controls.

The redesigned 2021 Genesis G80 is based on a new rear-drive platform, with the latest infotainment features, and innovative advanced safety features. It competes with the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-Series. Beneath the sleek shape is an all-new structure shared with the GV80 SUV. The standard engine is a turbocharged 300-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder and the uplevel engine is 375-hp, 3.5-liter V6 turbo that provides effortless acceleration. All-wheel drive was optional until the 2024 model year when it became standard. Ride comfort is impressive and handling is responsive.

Fit and finish is top notch. However, the infotainment system is very tricky to use. Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and blind spot and rear cross traffic warning. The G80 was refreshed for 2025. Part of the launch of Hyundai's upscale brand is the renaming of existing models. Previously known as the Hyundai Genesis, it is now called the G80. For about $10,000 less than competing midsized luxury sedans, the G80 delivers just about every feature and luxury attribute a buyer could imagine. Offered with a smooth and refined V6 or a potent V8, the G80 has responsive handling and a comfortable ride, though it can't quite match its German competitors. Our tested AWD V6 returned a competitive 20 mpg overall. Controls are refreshingly straightforward for a luxury car.

Rear-seat passengers are pampered with amenities, including seat heaters, and space is plentiful. Most versions come with automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring.
