The redesigned Mazda6 is sporty, stylish, and sparing with fuel. It delivered an impressive 32 mpg overall from the 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which is the best among non-hybrid midsized sedans. The six-speed automatic is very smooth and responsive. In the Fall a diesel engine will be available. We found the 6 to be agile and capable in the corners. The ride is taut and steady but on the firm side, especially at low speeds. The car has a sportier and more compact demeanor than most midsized sedans, but the sedan is rather loud, with noticeable road and wind noise. The front seats are comfortable, but some controls appear dated and a few cheap touches are apparent.
