David Butler

David Butler brings more than 20 years of experience as an executive for nonprofit and for-profit institutions to his role at Consumer Reports. He oversees government relations, corporate engagement, and strategic communications as a member of CR’s Consumer Impact division in Washington, D.C.

CR is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. With its trusted research and public policy expertise, CR advocates for pro-consumer laws and corporate practices at the state and federal level. It has a long history of educating and organizing millions of people across the U.S. to advance consumer rights. CR engages directly with businesses and governments to find solutions for safe products, fair prices, tech reforms, and other consumer needs. 

Prior to CR, David was the senior director of corporate affairs at SiriusXM. He worked on Capitol Hill as the press secretary for U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer from his home state of Alabama, and he served as the news director for National Public Radio station WJAB at Alabama A&M University. He earned a B.A. in communications at Pepperdine University in California.
