Gabe Shenhar was the Associate Director of the Auto Test Program at Consumer Reports from 1992 to 2025. He spearheaded electric vehicle testing in 2010, including setting up CR’s charging infrastructure, and was a regular panelist on the podcast “Talking Cars.”
Experience and Education
Gabe has been testing and evaluating cars since the late ’80s. A mechanical engineer by training, he has also completed several SAE vehicle dynamics workshops as well as advanced driving courses at Skip Barber and the Team O’Neil Rally School. A former member of BMW Car Club of America, he has also served as a driving instructor during track days and instructed new drivers at CR-hosted Street Survival courses. Gabe was instrumental in creating CR’s various scoring themes for different vehicle types and spearheaded the electric vehicle charging infrastructure at CR’s Auto Test Center.
