Ready to get started with a DAF?

With a donor-advised fund (DAF), you can contribute cash or appreciated stock, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then you decide when and how to send gifts to organizations you care about.

Phyllis Jo Kubey, a longtime Consumer Reports member and donor, shares five reasons why she chooses to give through a DAF to support CR’s mission:

  1. It’s easy and convenient. I can make a single contribution to my DAF, then recommend grants to multiple charities over time.
  2. It’s flexible. I choose when and how to give—one-time gifts, recurring donations, or emergency support.
  3. It’s tax-friendly. I can “bunch” contributions for larger deductions and even donate appreciated stock to maximize savings.
  4. It works for any gift size. Big or small, all my donations flow through one account, simplifying my giving.
  5. It reduces financial hassles. Updating payment info is easy, giving me peace of mind.
