Air fryers do a great job of cooking fries and other crispy foods. They’re great at reheating meals, too. But they can do a lot more than that, especially when you have a lot of space to work with. Large air fryers, which we categorize as models with a measured capacity of 5 or more quarts, can cook full meals for multiple people, crisp up a big batch of wings, fries, or veggies for a party, and even roast a whole bird. And if you have pans that fit your air fryer, you can bake cookies, brownies, and other sweet treats, too.
To determine which air fryers qualify as large, we don’t just go by the manufacturer’s description. In Consumer Reports’ tests of more than 75 air fryers, we’ve noticed that the advertised capacity is often less than the actual measured capacity. For instance, the capacity of the Kenmore KKAF8Q is claimed to be 8 quarts, but our testers found that its actual capacity is 6.3 quarts. So we judge capacity based on our own measurements.
We’ve tested a wide range of air fryers in our labs, and a good number of large-capacity air fryers received impressive scores in our evaluations of how easy their controls are to use, how easy they are to clean, and how much noise they make. We’ve rounded up the six very best large air fryers from our tests.
If you’re searching for a smaller appliance—one that cooks well for one or two people—see our picks of the best small air fryers. The Tabitha Brown for Target 8 Qt. Digital air fryer receives top scores for ease of cleaning, including the basket and the interior and exterior of the appliance. It also does well in our test for noise, in which we measure sound in decibels at the ear when the appliance is placed at countertop height. This model has a convenient viewing window that allows you to check on your food without opening it and losing heat. A big plus: It’s the least expensive air fryer on this list.

The Instant Vortex Plus 140-3089-01 has a clear window, making it easy to monitor your food without having to pull out the basket. Adorned with a floral design, the Pioneer Woman PW6136170192004 fits right in with the brand’s collection of colorful goods. It’s one of the only models in our ratings with a measured capacity larger than its claimed capacity (6.7 quarts compared with 6.3 quarts). It’s also the rare model with a built-in timer and cord storage. This air fryer excels in our cleaning and noise evaluations, and it receives pretty high marks for its easy-to-use controls, too. With eight programmed settings, a digital display, and a dishwasher-friendly basket, there’s a lot for families to love. Plus, it has a generous two-year warranty.

It may not have the most intuitive controls, according to our tests, but it’s easy to clean—with a dishwasher-safe basket—and it receives an excellent score in our noise tests.
