Viking Recalls More Than 3,000 Gas Ranges

Gas tubing can separate, posing a risk for a gas leak or fire

    Recalled Viking Range Source: CPSC

Viking has recalled about 3,050 5 Series gas ranges because rigid gas tubing can separate at the joint to the bake, broil, and griddle burners, creating the risk of a gas leak and possible fire hazard. No injuries or incidents have been reported, according to the recall notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recalled ranges were sold from August through December 2021 (see details below).

Of the eight models involved in the recall, two are listed in Consumer Reports’ current range ratings, a 30-inch model and a 36-inch model. Neither range was manufactured during the date range specified in the recall, and our test engineers didn’t observe any gas leaks or other hazards during the course of CR’s evaluation.

Details of the Viking Range Recall

The recall: It involves Viking 5 Series freestanding gas ranges sold under eight model numbers; the full list can be found on the CPSC release. The recall applies only to models with one of the listed serial numbers and a date code from 081021 to 120121, which indicates the range was manufactured between Aug. 10, 2021, and Dec. 1, 2021. The model and serial numbers can be found on a label in one of three places: on the left side panel under the left front grate support/burner bowl, on the front of the oven cavity face frame below the control panel, or on the bottom of the control panel above the door. Consumers shouldn’t search for the model and serial number when the range is hot.

The risk: Rigid gas tubing for bake, broil, and griddle burners can separate at the joint, potentially resulting in a gas leak and posing a risk of fire.

Incidents or injuries: None have been reported.

    How many: About 3,050 ranges.

Where and when sold: The ranges were sold at ABT, Ferguson, Best Buy, Pacific Sales, PC Richard & Son, and other stores nationwide from August 2021 through December 2021 for $5,220 to $19,300.

The remedy: Consumers should contact Viking to schedule a free in-home repair. Before the repair, don’t use the ovens or the griddle burner on the cooktop. The regular gas burners can be used.

Contact information: For more information, call Viking at 888-566-2512 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. Or go to the Viking recall page.

To report a hazardous product, call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 or go to saferproducts.gov.
