Best Buy Recalls More Than 200,000 Insignia Air Fryers for Hazards Due to Overheating
The recalled models' excessive heat can cause parts to melt or shatter, which poses fire, burn, and laceration hazards
Best Buy has recalled over 200,000 Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens due to reports of units overheating, posing fire, burn, and laceration hazards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received 24 reports of units overheating and parts melting or shattering, and six reports of units catching on fire. Six models of Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens are involved in the recall.
Insignia is a Best Buy brand of home appliances and technology. Consumer Reports hasn’t evaluated the recalled models.
Details of the Best Buy Air Fryer Recall
The recall: About 187,400 units sold at Best Buy in stores nationwide and online from November 2021 through November 2023, and about 99,900 sold in Canada. The Insignia models recalled are the 3.4-quart NS-AF34D2, the 5-quart NS-AF5DSS2, the 5-quart NS-AF5MSS2, the 8-quart NS-AF8DBD2, the 10-quart NS-AF10DBK2, and the 10-quart NS-AF10DSS2. The models are made of plastic or plastic and stainless steel with black and stainless steel finishes, and some have a glass oven door.
The remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens. If you own a recalled model, visit https://www.recallrtr.com/airfryer for instructions on how to receive a refund, either in the form of a refund check or a Best Buy store credit.
