Frigidaire Side-by-Side Refrigerators With Unsafe Ice Buckets Are Recalled for Choking and Laceration Hazards

Pieces of the broken bucket assembly can end up in your ice

Recalled Frigidaire Side by Side models dghk2355tf, fgss2635td, fgss2635tp and fpss2677rf Source: Frigidaire

More than 380,000 side-by-side Frigidaire refrigerators have been recalled by Electrolux, which owns the brand, because a component of the ice bucket assembly can break and drop plastic pieces into the ice bucket.

The small pieces pose choking and laceration hazards. The company has received 343 reports of plastic pieces breaking off, including two incidents that resulted in laceration and ingestion injuries, according to the recall notice issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

    More on Refrigerator Recalls

This is not the first time Electrolux has recalled refrigerators because of problems with ice makers. In 2022 it recalled 370,000 Electrolux and Frigidaire refrigerators after getting at least 185 reports that the ice-level arm broke into pieces and fell into the ice bucket, creating a choking hazard. That recall of Electrolux and Frigidaire side-by-side, top-freezer, and French-door fridges included one report of a gum laceration.

Consumer Reports tests all refrigerator types and most brands, including Frigidaire side-by-sides, but has not tested any of the models on the recall list, which appears below. You can find the model and serial numbers on a plate in the top right corner of the refrigerator compartment.

Details of the Frigidaire Refrigerator Recall

The recall: It involves certain Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerators with slim ice buckets manufactured between 2015 and 2019. The model numbers are DGHK2355TF, DGHX2655TF, FFSC2323TS, FGSC2335TD, FGSC2335TF, FGSS2635TD, FGSS2635TE, FGSS2635TF, FGSS2635TP, FPSC2277RF, FPSC2278UF, FPSS2677RF, LFSC2324VF, LGHK2336TD, LGHK2336TF, LGHX2636TD, and LGHX2636TF. You can also go to Frigidaire’s recall page to see if your refrigerator’s specific serial number is included in this recall.

The risk: The recalled refrigerators have a component in the ice bucket assembly that can break, resulting in plastic pieces falling into the ice bucket and posing choking and laceration hazards if they’re dispensed along with the ice.

Incidents/injuries: Electrolux has received 343 reports of plastic pieces breaking off, including two incidents that resulted in laceration and ingestion injuries when the pieces fell into the ice bucket.

    How many: About 383,240.

Where and when sold: The side-by-side refrigerators were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and other stores nationwide and online at Frigidaire.com from November 2015 through September 2019 for $1,400 to $2,400.

The remedy: Consumers should stop using the ice makers and contact Electrolux to request a replacement ice bucket assembly component, which is free.
