Magic Chef Recalls Nearly 12,000 Air Fryers

The air fryers can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards

Newair, the maker of Magic Chef Air Fryers, has recalled about 11,750 air fryers because they can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. There are no known incidents or injuries reported, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice.

Consumer Reports has not tested the Magic Chef Air Fryer Digital Air Fryer oven models involved in this recall, nor does CR have Magic Chef air fryers in our ratings. We saw a recall for a similar issue last spring, which involved more than 600,000 Insignia air fryers sold at Best Buy.

Details of the Magic Chef Air Fryer Recall

The recall: This recall involves the Magic Chef Air Fryer Digital Air Fryer oven with model numbers MCAF56DB (black) and MCAF56DW (white). Magic Chef is printed on the top of the fryers and the rating label on the bottom has the brand name Magic Chef along with the model number. The air fryers measure about 13 inches by 15 inches by 14 inches.

The risk: The air fryer can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.

Incidents/injuries: Newair, the manufacturer of the Magic Chef Air Fryer, has not received any reports of incidents or injuries.

How many: About 11,750 Magic Chef Air Fryers.

Where and when sold: Online at Newair.com, Walmart.com, Wayfair.com, Amazon.com, and Target.com from July 2018 through September 2020 for $115 to $138.

The remedy: You should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and provide a picture of the rating label to the firm. Users will receive instructions on how to disable the air fryer and receive a refund in the form of a Newair.com credit. The credit amount will be $50 or the amount on the purchase receipt if higher. No receipt is needed to get the $50 credit.
