    The Best Splatter Screen Isn’t Technically a Screen at All

    Cleaning up oily or saucy messes from a stovetop after cooking is not most people’s idea of a good time. Grease from frying bacon, splatters from long-simmered marinara or curry, and finishing marbled steaks uncovered in the oven are all messes that can be especially annoying to clean up. And if you’ve ever left a greasy mess to bake on for days, you know it’ll require more time and elbow grease to rid your stove of it when you’re finally in the mood for cleaning.

    To minimize those messes, there are splatter screens. These products act as a physical barrier between your food and the stovetop. Because they have small holes, they’re perfect for cooking foods that require allowing steam to escape from pans during cooking. And most of the models we tested had folding handles that save space in kitchen cabinets for storage.

    After frying bacon and searing chicken breasts with six different splatter guards, we found several models that helped keep stovetops clean, and one that also allowed for access to food in the process.
