Generally speaking, a toaster oven should last a good while, even though CR members who own one use it frequently—a median of two to six times a week, according to our owner satisfaction and reliability surveys in 2021 and 2024.

These hard-working appliances earn their spot on the kitchen counter for doing a lot more than a standard pop-up toaster. They can broil chops, roast brussels sprouts, bake a small batch of cookies, and reheat leftovers. Many can also air-fry. But like any appliance, a toaster oven is good only as long as it lasts.

    MORE ON COUNTERTOP APPLIANCES

Our latest survey is based on the track record of 30,619 toaster ovens owned by CR members who purchased them new between 2016 and 2024. We examined that data to produce a rating for predicted reliability, which estimates the likelihood that newly purchased toaster ovens from a given brand will develop problems or break within the first four years.

Owner satisfaction ratings reflect the likelihood that CR members would recommend the toaster oven they bought. You’ll see both reliability and satisfaction ratings combined with lab test results for models in our toaster oven ratings. Prices on these appliances range from $20 to $500, and performance varies widely, too.

Below, we detail our survey results for 30 brands, including Breville, Cuisinart, Hamilton Beach, and Ninja.
