A number of our user reviews cite durability issues such as brush-roll belts that burned up and plastic hose connections that wore out and broke. One possible way to avoid trouble, according to one user review, is to turn off the vacuum before adjusting the carpet pile height or switching between carpet and bare-floor vacuuming. The manual, we have confirmed, does warn that failing to turn off the vacuum before changing the carpet/bare-floor selector could cause the belt to rub on the selector shaft and heat up to the point of emitting a burned-rubber smell.
