    Detailed Test Results

The Neato Botvac D7 Connected was comparable at cleaning our carpets and navigating and cleaning our bare floors. It was able to suck fine grains of powder from the test carpets (even though this is impressive, it should not be compared to the suction of a regular upright or canister vacuum). Its downfall was cleaning edges and corners of the test rooms. It makes subtle movements around furniture to minimize contact, which is helpful to not damage furniture, but a detriment to cleaning edges. One positive of the side brush is that it attaches to the vacuum magnetically and releases easily. The vacuum moved slowly over the carpet and was able to pick up most of the pet hair in the first pass. Most of the hair was in the brushroll but was easy to remove. The vac reverses out of trouble if fringe gets sucked into brushroll. It was able to maneuver over power cords with only a little tugging. The one-button toggle between modes was not intuitive at first. Features: Eco and turbo modes, spot cleaning, zone cleaning, scheduling, extra care navigation mode, a find me mode when the robot is lost and the ability to be manually driven. It has a multiple floor plan feature which claims to store up to three floor plans (not tested). You can set No-Go lines on the floor in the app to prevent the vacuum from going in areas you don't want it to go. You can also see a map of the area cleaned. App: Neato Robotics version 2.9.2 is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT. Battery: Li-ion (14.4V, 4200MAh, 61Wh). Includes: Extra filter, magnetic strips, power cord, brush and filter cleaning tool, docking station. Warranty is 1 year limited for hardware and 6 months for the battery.

    About

The Neato Botvac D7 Connected is part of the Vacuum Cleaners test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Robotic Vacuums models like the Botvac D7 Connected are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Carpet: Shows how much surface litter (cereal, rice, and peas) and embedded dust the vacuum picked up from a medium-pile carpet.

Bare floors: Indicates the vacuum's ability to remove surface debris from a bare laminate floor.

Navigation: A composite score that includes combined coverage over multiple runs, clearance under furniture and obstacle and entrapment avoidance.
