    Detailed Test Results

The Neato D8 has solid scores all-around but it wasn't perfect. It dons the signature Neato robot vacuum D-shape which helps for edge and corner cleaning. During the pet hair test, it dragged some hair around but was able to pick it up in subsequent passes. Hair was tangled up in the side brush and some hair didn't make it all the way into the bin. The magnetic side brush is easy to pop off and clean. During the bare floor test, a lot of sand was stuck to the bottom and wheels. It was very good at sucking up fine grains of flour that were embedded into the test carpet. During one of the runs to see if it would pass over power cords, the power cord got stuck on side brush but the robot turned off the side brush and was able to free itself and continue. For other runs the robot was able to pass over the power cords successfully with only slight tugging. The robot struggled to clear a .75" threshold but was able to eventually clear it. It has a decent sized dirt bin compared to other tested models and its brush roll width is one of the wider models tested. However, this robot had a tendency to scatter debris in tests. Features: Eco, Turbo modes. Recharge and resume. You can set No-Go lines on the floor in the app to prevent the vacuum from going in areas you don't want it to go. You can also see a map of the area cleaned. App: MyNeato version:1.1.5 Battery: Li-Ion 14.4V, 2100mAh Includes: 1 brush cleaning tool, 2 extra paper filters, docking station. Warranty is 1 year limited.

    About

The Neato D8 is part of the Vacuum Cleaners test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Robotic Vacuums models like the D8 are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Carpet: A high score means the vacuum effectively removes surface debris and embedded dust from medium-pile carpet. A top-scoring model picks up more debris from carpet per run.

Bare floors: A high score means the vacuum effectively removes surface debris like sand from smooth hard floors. A top-scoring model picks up more debris from non-carpeted flooring per run.

Navigation: A composite score that includes combined coverage over multiple runs, clearance under furniture and obstacle and entrapment avoidance.
