Britax Recalls More Than 114,000 Infant Car Seats for Carry Handle Defect

Several Britax B-Safe infant car seats and Britax Endeavours infant car seats are being recalled because the carry handle can detach, causing a fall hazard

Britax B-Safe Gen2 car seat and the Britax Endeavours car seat. — The carry handle on some Britax B-Safe car seats and Endeavours car seats can detach, leading to a fall hazard.

Britax has voluntarily recalled 114,660 infant car seats, including certain seats in its B-Safe line and the Britax Endeavours infant car seat, after learning that the car seat carry handle can detach and cause a fall hazard when a baby is strapped inside. The issue stems from a screw in the carry handle that can come loose, causing the handle to partially detach. About 1 percent of the recalled car seats are expected to have this defect. After receiving a consumer complaint about the issue, Britax investigated further and worked to develop the recall. Four injuries have been reported to date, which the recall report states were minor. A repair kit is under development.

Locate your car seat’s model number and product name on the white label sticker, which is usually located on the back or underside of the car seat shell.

The problem: A screw on the car seat carry handle can come loose, causing the handle to partially detach and creating a fall hazard that may increase the risk of injury for a baby strapped in.

The fix: A repair kit is in development. The car seats are no longer in production, but may still be in use. You may continue to use your car seat to transport your child when properly installed in a vehicle. Avoid carrying the car seat with the carry handle.
