Thousands of Näpei Baby Bathtubs Recalled for Battery Safety Hazard

The built-in thermometer in the collapsible tub contains a button battery that’s not properly secured, posing an ingestion risk that could be fatal, though no cases have been reported

About 7,800 collapsible baby bathtubs from the brand Näpei are being recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission because of an unsecured button battery. The bathtubs contain a built-in temperature sensor, which houses a button cell battery that regulators say can be easily accessed by babies or toddlers. If ingested, button cell batteries can cause life-threatening chemical burns or poisoning, or they can become a choking hazard, in young children. At this time, no injuries have been reported.

If you own the Näpei collapsible baby bathtub, here’s what to know about the recall, and whether it’s safe to keep using your bathtub with your child.

About the Näpei Collapsible Baby Bathtub Recall

The recalled tubs were sold at Amazon from July 2025 through September 2025. However, CR found that similar versions of the bathtub are currently still for sale at Target, TikTok Shop. and Walmart. CR contacted the manufacturer for confirmation that the products still sold in these stores are not part of the recall, but we didn’t hear back in time for publication.

    More on Baby Safety

The Näpei infant bathtub is advertised as a travel tub. It’s designed to fold up for storage, and its legs are removable. The tub affected by the recall was sold in the white/gray color combination and featured a removable star print cushion insert, a built-in thermometer, and a blue rubber star-shaped drain plug. The model number “0823” can be found on the manufacturer’s label on the bottom of the tub.

Because of the safety risks associated with button batteries, if you own this bathtub, you should immediately stop using it and contact the manufacturer, Sefon Store, for a free replacement battery compartment. “When button cell or coin batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns and death,” the CPSC said in the recall announcement.

CR has previously tested the Näpei Collapsible Baby Bathtub and found it to have confusing labeling regarding the age and weight limits for usage. In some places the company lists the age range as 0 to 36 months, and in others it states 0 to 12 months. The difference in labeling could pose a safety concern. The weight limit for usage was also unspecified, which is another safety issue. In addition, our testers found that setting up the bathtub for use wasn’t as intuitive as it was for other tubs in our tests, and the instruction manual was difficult to read.

Details of the Näpei Baby Bathtub Recall

Number of bathtubs recalled: About 7,800 Näpei collapsible infant bathtubs, with model number 0823, are being recalled.

Purchase dates: The affected products were sold on Amazon from July 2025 through September 2025 for about $35.

Model number: Look for the text “Model No: Baby Bathtub – 0823” on the manufacturing label on the bottom of the bathtub.

The problem: A child can easily access the battery compartment underneath the temperature monitor, which houses a button battery. Unsecured button batteries can pose a significant safety hazard and can cause serious injury or even death. Consumers should immediately stop using the Näpei bathtub.

The fix: The manufacturer, Sefon Store, will mail a free replacement battery compartment to owners of the bathtub. Consumers should provide their order number or a photo of the tracking label found on the bottom of the infant bathtub and email Sefon Store at napeiservice00@outlook.com. Upon confirmation of your order number or receipt of a photo of the tracking label, Sefon Store will send you a replacement battery compartment.

How to contact the manufacturer: Contact Sefon Store by email

    CPSC recall number: 26-071.
