The recent recall of the popular Mockingbird Single-to-Double stroller will cause a lot of parents to pump the brakes on their next afternoon stroll. For those already in the market for a new ride for their toddlers, it will likely mean applying a bit more scrutiny to the brands they consider.

If you’re looking to replace the recalled Mockingbird stroller or simply shopping for a solid stroller that accommodates multiple toddlers, we have some recommendations for you based on our extensive stroller tests.

    MORE ON STROLLERS

Following reports of cracked frames, child injuries and dozens of customer complaints on social media, Mockingbird recalled 149,000 models of its popular stroller, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall followed weeks of consumer complaints, scrutiny by the CPSC, and reporting by Consumer Reports.

CR tested both the Mockingbird Single Stroller and the Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller for inclusion in our comprehensive stroller ratings. Our tests of the Single-to-Double model did not include the optional second seat, which must be ordered separately. Many of the breakages reported on social media involved use of this second seat. Mockingbird’s Single Stroller is not affected by the recall. While we didn’t experience any breakages in our tests, neither of the strollers scored high enough to earn CR’s recommendation.

Both models received high scores from CR for safety, which we assess with tests patterned after the current ASTM federal stroller safety standard. We put all strollers through stability, braking, and maneuverability tests designed by CR. These include our indoor test course, where we steer a stroller loaded with a max-weight “baby” (actually a 30-pound weight bag) around cones, up and down a simulated curb, and over obstructions that mimic grass, mulch, and tree roots.

If you’re in search of a new stroller, check out the options below. Our list includes a variety of designs suitable for twins, or multiple infants and toddlers. Listed in alphabetical order, these strollers all receive CR’s recommendation.
