2017 Ford Edge brake recall

Ford announced that it will recall 488,594 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX SUVs due to concerns that the brake lines could leak fluid and subsequently increase the risk of a crash.

As the brake fluid level decreases, the driver may experience greater brake pedal travel and reduced braking performance. The company advises that if the brake fluid reservoir is depleted below a certain level, the brake fluid warning indicator light will illuminate.

Ford said in a statement that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

The automaker will begin notifying customers about this recall the week of September 14, 2020.

The Details

Vehicles recalled:

  • 2015-18 Ford Edge vehicles built at Oakville Assembly Plant from June 25, 2014, to Dec. 21, 2017.
  • 2016-18 Lincoln MKX vehicles built there from Nov. 11, 2014, to Dec. 21, 2017.

The problem: The flexible front brake jounce hoses can rupture, allowing brake fluid to leak out. Since hydraulic brake systems depend on fluid pressure to operate, this can cause an unsafe decrease in stopping ability.

The fix: Ford dealers will replace the front brake jounce hoses with new hoses made with a revised braided material free of charge.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332.

NHTSA campaign number: 20V469000. Ford's number for this recall is 20S42.

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
