Ford is recalling 78,264 of its 2019 Ranger pickup trucks because an electrical connector may be loose or not properly installed. As a result, the taillights may be inoperative or work intermittently, according to the automaker.

This problem includes the lights that indicate stopping, turning, and/or reversing, and may result in a crash. Ford has said that this problem does not affect the center high-mounted brake light. The recall is for 72,718 Rangers in the U.S. and federal territories, and 5,546 in Canada.

Ford said in its recall notifications that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries associated with this problem.

The Details

Vehicles recalled: 78,264 Ford Ranger pickup trucks from the 2019 model year in the U.S. and Canada that were built at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant from June 4, 2018, to Aug. 16, 2019.

The problem: An electrical connection for the taillights may not be secure or may be misaligned. This can result in the lights for stopping, turning, or reversing either working intermittently or being inoperable. This could lead to a crash.

The fix: Ford will notify owners if their vehicle is part of the recall. Dealers will inspect one of the connectors for the taillights and, if the connection is loose, a replacement connector will be installed.

How to contact the manufacturer: Ford’s number for this recall is 19S43. Owners may call Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. There is no date as to when the recall will begin.

NHTSA campaign number: The NHTSA campaign number is not available at this time.

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has a recall that needs to be addressed.

If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have one. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly.
