Ford is recalling 27,000 of the 2017 to 2019 Lincoln Continental sedans because the door-latch motor may fail at times. Over time, silicone can build up and contaminate the door-latch motor. This may result in a latch that doesn't fully engage. That could lead to doors opening suddenly while the car is in motion.

Ford, the parent company of Lincoln, says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from this problem.

The Details

Vehicles involved: 27,000 of the 2017 to 2019 Lincoln Continental sedans built from Nov. 30, 2015, through Nov. 14, 2018, at Ford's Flat Rock assembly plant in Michigan.

The problem: Over time, silicone can build up and contaminate the door-latch motor, a Lincoln spokeswoman told CR. This may result in a latch that doesn't fully engage. That could lead to doors opening suddenly while the car is in motion, raising the possibility of injury, Ford says.

The fix: Dealers will remove and replace the door-latch assemblies in all four doors on affected vehicles at no charge to owners.
