Land Rover is recalling about 65,385 of its 2013-2016 Range Rover and 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport SUVs because doors that appear to be closed may not actually be latched, raising the risk that occupants could fall out, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The defect involves the keyless door-locking system, NHTSA says. Some owners have reported that their doors have opened while their vehicle was in motion.
Land Rover says it's not aware of any reports of injuries or crashes related to this problem.
The Details
Vehicles recalled: 65,385 SUVs, including 2013-2016 Range Rover SUVs and 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport SUVs built from May 9, 2012, through March 5, 2015.
The problem: The Keyless Vehicle Latching System (called KV Latch) may not function properly. The vehicle doors will appear to be closed and secured but in fact may be unlatched.
The fix: Dealers will inspect the vehicle to determine whether there are problems with the KV Latch system. They will disable the system, if necessary, and update the software, all at no charge to owners.
