The MDX is a well-rounded, seven-seat SUV that consistently outscored vehicles costing more. We liked its refined powertrain, quick acceleration, responsive handling, and controlled ride. We found the interior fit and finish impressive and the front- and second-row seats comfortable. But the third-row seat is tight for anyone but kids.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2007 Acura MDX owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"Camera works intermittently and has since almost new. Dealer refused to repair because could not diagnose"

Elaine B., SC (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)
CD player

"CD player hasn't worked for several years. We don't miss it much as we don't listen to music in car."

Edgar S., AZ (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"6 CD player makes mechanical noise when CDs are being played."

Anonymous, FL (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"CD jams inside. Dealer indicates a full replacement is required. After-market stereo store concurs."

Anonymous, OR (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"Since my dealership replaced my car battery in January 2017, the CD unit cycles, attempting to load a nonexistent CD, for about one minute when I turn on the ignition. The dealership said it was a component failure and the only way to remedy it was to replace the entire radio unit at a cost of $900. Not worth the investment, so I'm living with it"

Anonymous, PA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"The Bluetooth system failed & drew down the battery. The dead battery caused the CD player to grind away, trying to eject a disk, but there was no disk in it! Noise occurred for the first minute or so every time I started the car...very irritating!"

Anonymous, CO (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"CD became jammed in the 6 CD system. Dealer states it will cost about $ 1000 to replace"

Anonymous, FL (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"CD player won't work. Acura indicates this is a problem they have had. Costs $500 to send unit to be refurbished or $1,500 for a new unit"

Anonymous, CA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"stopped working. $500 to replaces, not worth that"

Edgar S., AZ (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"Would not reject CDs inserted into player. Popping noise when starting vehicle after new CD player was installed"

Anonymous, CA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"The six-disc changer would not eject the discs, yet it would continually try, making a grinding noise. Made the use of any radio features worthless due to the noise level. Dealer wanted so much money to fix I had to just yank the unit out myself"

Northrup A., CA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"6-CD player jammed and stopped working. Internet complaints run in the 100s or so, and I complained about the CD operation before the warranty ran out. The CD player would randomly eject disks. I think it showed the unit was defective. Acura would no"

Michael A., KY (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"The entire console which included the radio/CD had to be replaced"

Anonymous, CA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

Display screen goes blank

"stays dark untill warmed up"

Anonymous, IL (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"The entire front panel would lose power occasionally. The car would continue to drive, and the panel would light up again within several seconds."

Anonymous, PA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"Screen went black. Had to reboot computer by uninstalling NAV disc and then it seemed to function afterwards."

Joram A., OR (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

Anonymous, AZ (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"The car developed a strange flicker in the gauges and the navigation would turn off and then back on and it would make the transmission come out of gear and slip. All due to electrical that could never be found"

John P., CA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"I first noticed the problem because the bluetooth would not connect with my phone. It turned out to be caused by the malfunction of the voice control device (Acura/Honda calls this Hands-Free Link or HFL). According to the dealer, this malfunction caused the bluetooth to keep searching even when the car was not running, which in turn, caused the battery to drain. I read online that this was a chronic problem with Honda/Acura vehicles and had actually spawned a class action suit. The repair was very costly ($540)."

Anonymous, CA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"Blue tooth wouldn't turn off and ran battery down"

Anonymous, KY (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

"I replaced my battery 5 times in two years. I did research online (when I could get no answers from the Acura dealership) and found there was a significant issue with acura's Bluetooth acting like a parasite and sucking battery life. I demanded the repairshop unplug the Bluetooth, and never had a problem again. Prior to, if had to call AAA for battery start 10plus times. Acura should've known it was an issue and fixed it instead of jerking me and likely many many others around"

Anonymous, GA (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

Voice control commands

"I first noticed this problem because my bluetooth would not pair. I don't use the voice commands very often, but when I tried them, they were completely haywire. Took the car to the Acura dealer who diagnosed the problem as a faulty Hands-Free Link (HFL) control unit. Fuel System

Check engine light, sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor), emission control devices (includes EGR), engine computer, engine computer, fuel cap, fuel gauge/sender, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel leaks, stalling or hesitation.

What Owners Say

Emission control devices (includes EGR)

"The EGR valve was almost completely closed by build-up. The mechanics asked where we bought our gas so I assume they think the build-up happens with lesser quality gas products. We purchased a majority of the gas for the MDX locally at either a Valero or King Soopers gas stations. It's not like you get a lot of insight into which brands of gas are better or worse for your car's engine, so it'd be hard to know if that was the major culprit or not."

Jeff B., CO (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)

Clock

"Clock - this is a weird one. The clock works, but for 1/2 the year it is on time and the other have it is wrong. I live in AZ which does not use daylight savings time. So we are on PT and MT. Yes, I have reset the clock using instructions from owners manual. But when we are on PT time, an hour later(after stopping engine), it will reset back one hour. But during MT, the clock works and is the correct time. So it appears there is something in the clock or in the computer that has lost control of MT vs. PT. Since the car runs fine, I do not worry about it. It is just annoying that you have to subtract 1 hour during PT. Issue never fixed."

Anonymous, AZ (2007 Acura MDX None 3.7-L V6)
Cruise control

"I looked online and a couple comments suggested it may be a clock spring assembly in the steering wheel. So I took it to Firestone. They confirmed the issue, but were not allowed to work on the issue (Not sure why). so I called another tech, confirming they would be willing to take of the steering wheel and do the work. They said yes. So I dropped it off. Only issue I had was I had to go without the vehicle for a few days because obviously they wanted to confirm the clock spring part was the issue. They had to go to dealer to get the part and install it. So this took a couple/few days."

Took to dealership and they were unable to determine what the problem was but still charged me almost $1000. Told me that it was most likely tied in with the electronic mirrors and would cost around $1200; with no guarantee that it would take care of the problem. My Bluetooth phone was an issue too"
