Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for about 420,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2019 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2019 Acura MDX owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks.

What Owners Say

Other/unsure

"Senses paint line changes in the road , and brakes as a result"

Richard C., TX (2019 Acura MDX A-Spec 3.0-L V6 hybrid)

"The idiotic automatic braking is overly sensitive and suddenly slams on the brakes when a car in front of you makes a left turn and when you have plenty of room I will never recommend or buy another Acura."

Jon E., WA (2019 Acura MDX Tech 3.5-L V6)

"False alarms"

Anonymous, CA (2019 Acura MDX Tech 3.5-L V6)

"The sensor is too sensitive. It has applied the brake warning light and audible alarm with nothing in front of the car."

Anonymous, NC (2019 Acura MDX)

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"Camera is insufficient. At night and if it has rained it is useless. The camera needs to be improved and relocated to be better protected."

Anonymous, NC (2019 Acura MDX)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"its stink, stink, stinks"

Heinrich T., CA (2019 Acura MDX Advance 3.5-L V6)
Radio

"only high teh genius or Acura dealer are able to handle the radio"

Heinrich T., CA (2019 Acura MDX Advance 3.5-L V6)
Voice control commands

"Gps system difficult to operate. Use Waze instead"

Anonymous, FL (2019 Acura MDX Tech 3.5-L V6)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"slow speeds the 9 speed transmission make a loud clunk sound and has trouble deciding what gear to be in."

Anonymous, FL (2019 Acura MDX Tech 3.5-L V6)

"Under certain circumstances, vehicle downshifts roughly."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Acura MDX Tech 3.5-L V6)
Slipping transmission

"The transmission is worthless. The push button shifting is a major distraction. The transmission does not downshift smoothly or accurately. It surges, whines, is horribly slow from 5th to 4th on manual downshifts. I owned 2014 MDX with a six speed that shifted firmly and on demand. The 2019 is unresponsive, slips, whines and is not fun to drive hard. I will never buy another Acura because of this worthless waste of $60000. I have owned 8 Acuras since 1988, this is by far the worst Acura because of the useless transmission and the computer that overrides everything. I plan to sell this piece of shit and buy a Porsche."

Jon E., WA (2019 Acura MDX Tech 3.5-L V6)

Body Hardware

Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

What Owners Say

Doors or sliding doors

"doors do not close without slamming them shut."

Anonymous, KS (2019 Acura MDX Advance 3.5-L V6)
Glass defects

"Severe windshield distortion where it curves to meet the frame on either side. Particularly problematic when making a hard right turn. Dealership acknowledges distortion which is also present on other 2019 MDX but will not replace with distortion free windshield.. Rational is that it is present on the other MDX cars. Have spoken to regional managers. It is recall worthy. Even more severe on other individual MDXs.. This is my 5th & last MDX due to that problem and dealer attitude."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura MDX Tech 3.5-L V6)

Fuel System

Check engine light, sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor), emission control devices (includes EGR), engine computer, engine computer, fuel cap, fuel gauge/sender, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel leaks, stalling or hesitation.

What Owners Say

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura MDX Tech 3.5-L V6)

Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Driveline vibration

"Upon delivery, after driving at highway speeds, i detected a shimmy in steering wheel. Started at 50 mph and worsened up to 60 or more, than less over 65 mph. Also applyi g brakes at highway speeds, it was evident that the front rotors were warped as a pulsation was felt. Returned to Dealer, who replaced front brake rotors and re balanced front wheels. Shimmy was better but still present. Brake pulsation was rectified. After another return to Dealer it was determined there was bent wheel rim. The rim was repaired and all the wheels rebalanced and the shimmy is gone."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura MDX Advance 3.5-L V6)

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura MDX Advance 3.5-L V6)

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.
