What Owners Say
"Android play was not available until 14 months after purchase due to new touchpad system"
Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"It just does not work with all the apps. The touch and controls are different from normal"
Anonymous, OH (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"When purchased, Apple system was in place. Dealer promised Android Auto very soon. 5 months later it was added."
Anonymous, NM (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"After a few months CarPlay would stop working after about 5 minutes. I think it had something to do with iOS updates. Between iOS updates and Acura software updates I was able to do myself it is working well now."
Anonymous, IL (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"I bought the car primarily because it offered Apple CarPlay. The day I bought the car, both Bluetooth and CarPlay were dropping their connection and Bluetooth couldn't connect with my directory. After rebooting the infotainment system a couple times, Bluetooth seemed to work ok. However, it took 1 1/2 years of firmware updates and constant denials from Acura before CarPlay seemed to stabilize. It seems to be working ok since the last firmware update earlier this year, but this is my last Acura. Along with many other owners, I tired of Acura denying there was a problem."
Anonymous, MD (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The infotainment system freezes and it goes blank. It seems to be related to Apple car play. This also affects the steering wheel controls occasionally. Acura's only solution was to do a hard reset of the system which did not solve the problem."
Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"It simply would not function"
Anonymous, NC (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Apple CarPlay has not ever worked correctly with the 2019 RDX since I leased it new. There have been various problems, but now Apple CarPlay will only work for about 5 - 10 minutes before it simply quits. It won't work again until the car has been turned on and off"
Anonymous, CA (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The Apple Car Play feature is very finicky. Sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn't. For example, it will not connect properly using Google maps, but it will connect using Waze. If I enter a destination on my phone, and then plug the phone into CarPlay, the destination disappears and I have to enter it again. The hands-free calling feature doesn't hear my voice accurately and calls the wrong number half the time."
Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The Apple Car Play doesn't always work. we have had a full replacement of the motherboard for the infotainment system under warranty and that only partially addressed the issues. Acura has had issues with this system and continues to send updates to download."
Anonymous, IL (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Apple car play dropped all the time for the first 13 months. A software fix was downloaded in Jan 2020"
Anonymous, MO (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"doesnt work at all,...hasnt worker in a year,..just havent had time to fix it."
Anonymous, FL (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"When using CarPlay the system occasionally completely freezes. No media of any kind (FM, XM, CarPlay) will work. I have to turn off the car and restart to get the infotainment system to work. This made my long commute intolerable. A small percentage of time the system would remain on even after the car was turned off requiring me to pull the battery or fuse (the dealer recommended solution!). There have been several software updates for the car which has helped but not complexity eliminated the problem. Very frustrating."
Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Apple CarPlay consistently disconnects whether actively using an app or just in standby mode. This is annoying when playing music, but is disastrous when it drops out in the middle of navigation apps. I’m in an unfamiliar area searching for a location and the app drops out and leaves my driving blind. Now I have to pull over and either switch to a Bluetooth connection with no on screen maps or input the address into the cars nav system, which is not very accurate or fast. That’s why I prefer the CarPlay nav apps."
Anonymous, MD (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The system froze and all entertainment and NAV systems were inoperable. The NAV screen also stayed on, even after the car was turned off. The dealer reloaded the software but I'm not convinced that the problem won't recur."
Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"It will sometimes disconnect but the phone thinks it is still on a call so the audio system stops from playing"
Alan G., CA (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Frequent disconnecting and reconnecting with my iPhone when connected with Apple brand cable. Wife doesn't have problem with her iPhone. I have a newer iPhone XS vs my wife's X. Acura suggested a complete reset of the infotainment system that I have yet to do as it requires resetting favorites and settings."
Nicholas B., MA (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The entertainment system is very glitchy and on multiple occasions and blacked out completely, leaving me with no radio, no clock, no navigation, the screen was completely blank."
Cassandra R., SC (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Sometimes the Apple Car Play doesn't connect when plugged in. I have to unplug the usb cord from the vehicle them plug it back in. Sometimes that helps sometimes it doesn't."
Maggie B., TX (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"there is NO CD PLAYER in this vehicle. Had I realised this I PROBABLY would not have leased it!!!"
John P., ON (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"This started a few weeks after purchasing the vehicle and has now finally been fixed by a software update. Today the infotainment system is stable and while I question the true-touch touchpad the integration with Android Auto works well and I am generally happy with it. My one complaint is that Acura sold this car for over 16 months with the Infotainment in such a poor state. Almost once a month it would freak out and I would have to turn off the car and let it sit for a few hours to reset before it would work again. That is not acceptable for a Kia let alone a brand that considers themselves to be a luxury."
Anonymous, SC (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The display screen will freeze and there is no way to fix it except stopping the car, turning the engine off, waiting 5-10 minutes and then turning the engine back on."
Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The display screen froze up about 6 months ago and would not shut off even when I turned the car off and wore my battery completely down. I had to call Acura complimentary towing and have them jump start the car. Haven't had a problem since."
Anonymous, MI (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The display screen often takes 3-5 minutes before it even loads while I am driving. Usually by the time the controls are visible, I am on the road and can't take my eyes off the road to enter my choices."
Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"audio went completely off and screen went blank"
Anonymous, NJ (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Display screen froze up, and did not affect driveability. Called the dealer, made appointment to bring car in, but the problem resolved itself, may have been an automatic software/firmware update."
Anonymous, WI (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"It flashes between dark and light. Every time it flashes it tells you that you cannot change drive modes."
Anonymous, OH (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Display info was not loading properly, could not use infotainment system and safety warning features were not operable, display screen just showed loading icon"
Anonymous, NJ (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"This is a recurring problem. The first occurrence resulted in our two seek old vehicle being the service dept. having our vehicle for twenty four days, with no repairs being made due to the inability to recreate the problem. The second occasion occurred ten days later and we immediately visited the dealership we purchased from. The service dept. was closed so the vehicle was logged in for repair and we were provided a loaner. Supposedly an update to the operating system was downloaded and it was repaired. It occurred yet again four weeks later. Back to the dealership the following day, but again they could not recreate the problem and we picked the car up that evening. The most recent occurrence was six weeks ago. We drove the vehicle to a different dealership, recommended by a friend who knew the service manager. She was very helpful and was well aware of the problem we were experiencing. She had a technician take a lengthy report from us, to gather as much information regarding our experiences. He then took the vehicle and downloaded information from the system. He rebooted the computer and downloaded an update. We have not experienced another episode since. The service manager has contacted us several times to check on our vehicle and to update us on what Acura has found. She was very honest in telling us Acura is very well aware of the problem as it seems to quite prevalent with the RDX."
Maria F., IL (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Has issues with accessing USB music"
Robert S., OK (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Voice commands will freeze up the info system. Slow to start up until the car has been drive for more than 5 minutes. If it freezes up you stop the car, turn off the engine and restart."
Marc E., MI (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The display screen does freeze up occasionally while I'm driving when I switch from SirusXM radio to the USB stick containing music. It eventually does unfreeze but it's just slow and a pain."
Edward B., CA (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The in-dash infotainment system failed twice in the 6 months I've had the vehicle. My concern is that if the underlying software decides to shut down electronic subsystems, it might shut down the important systems in a fully drive-by-wire vehicle, The first repair was a general system reset performed by the dealer. The second repair involved a full check of the electrical system and at least a replacement battery that was not putting out full power"
Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Information radio screen would not turn on. Problem was intermittent. Once I removed USB cord problem stopped"
Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"I had problems on several occasions with the infotainment system going blank or freezing up and nothing would work on it the radio went dead navigation went dead Etc the dealer was able to correct the problem with a reboot of the entire system"
Anonymous, MO (2019 Acura RDX Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Infotainment screen and dashboard digital information goes blank making it impossible to see speed, GPS, other controls. Vehicle currently at dealership so they can attempt to figure out what is wrong."
Akua P., FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The info screen went to just snow. The cameras were visible on the screen when the car was in reverse but nothing was visible when the car was in Park or Drive."
Anonymous, WA (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Screen went black about 5 times since ownership. Resolved itself once car was restarted or after driving for several minutes."
Nicholas B., MA (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The display screen went blank the day we bought the vehicle. We were told this was due to a software issue and would be corrected by simply updating the operating system. We were given a loaner vehicle to use in order for us to grab dinner while they addressed the software update. We returned ninety minutes later and the car was ready. We had a second and final experience with the display going blank, but it restored itself by simply turning the car off and restarting it."
Maria F., IL (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"I think when iPhone is plugged in, system often doesn't recognize it and car play will disappear for 30 min or so and then suddenly reconnect. Also terrible static at times from radio"
Anonymous, IL (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"problems with gps/navigation, and radio was not working. amplifier was changed and to date issue resolved no cuurent issues"
Anonymous, NC (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Several instances of infotainment system completely not working, meaning blank screen, no radio, no nav, nothing. Acura eventually replaced the whole system and now it seems to work fine."

Anonymous, MN (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"I spilled a cup of coffee on the infotainment system keypad. Its functioning became impaired. It could not be repaired And the full unit had to be replaced."
Anonymous, NJ (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Simply put - the navigation system database is ancient and fairly useless. I seldom use it, preferring GPS apps on my iPhone. They are faster and way more accurate! On top of that, it's voice recognition feature is useless. Speak as slowly and clearly as you want and it's to no avail most times. It takes forever to find an address when typed/written in and then the route is not efficient. The one thing I like about it - head up display directions, is useless because I never use the system! Oh yeah, and it doesn't store destinations in a directory like my old GPS on my 2009 Acura TL. Yep, a step backwards."
Anonymous, MD (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Too many bugs..."
Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Took a trip to Buffalo New York and the navigation system routed the most direct route from Michigan thru Canada to Buffalo and worked perfectly. On the return trip home, the navigation system wanted to take us 170 miles out of our way thru the American side instead of the more direct Canadian route."
Anonymous, MI (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"in dash navigation system is unusable due to it's design"

Anonymous, CA (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The maps in the navy system were 1 year old when I bought it. Acura has never updated them, and there doesn't appear to be an update coming."
Anonymous, ON (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"The navigation system is hard to set. Often it does not understand the location I am asking for. I have had to use WAVs sometimes because I could not get through to the navigation system. I also do not trust the directions it gives. Just yesterday it took me three tries before the navigation system accepted an address and it then sent me 9 miles away from where I wanted to go."
William H., FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"System is unnecesarily complex. The previous system on my old MDX was easier to use."

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"In general, the infotainment system is a cluster fuck. There is no other way to put it. Often, as in every week, I'll have a trip where I pull away from the driveway and the radio (usually FM but sometime AM) does not turn on until several minutes later. I initially thought it was temperature related but it is not. Acura has now "installed" Android Auto in the vehicle via over the air update. That went fairly smoothly. However, the user interface for the Android Auto screens require using the touch pad to scroll the cursor to the button position. This is in contrast to every other function of the infotainment screen outside of Android Auto utilizing the touch pad as a 1 to 1 positional user interface. Sooooo confusing and DISTRACTING. Other times I get an error message saying my phone is not connected but I have music streaming from my phone to the system. There are several variations of this theme. I must say.... the sound system is the best I have ever had in any vehicle, owned or rented. That's the radio\infotainment system - I'd love to tell you about my hesitation on acceleration issues that may be related to the current class action lawsuit against Honda-Acura, but that is definitely a separate issue."

Initially, it may have taken several minutes and switching to Bluetooth music and back to activate the radio OR after several minutes it required the car to be shut off, doors opened, and then restarted to activate the radio. Somewhat ameliated by an OTA patch but it continues to this day, just less often and for not as long a time period before the radio finds it way back to the infotainment system. Still NO Android Auto <<< this makes me very Grumpy."

Victor M., FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Experienced a couple of problems with the radio beside the fact that presets are not readily accessible when using Navigation. First is the radio app on the steering wheel does not populate the saved favorites when you first pull it up. You must open it multiple times before it populates our favorites so you can select one to change the channel. Next the arrow feature on the steering wheel used to select the next station in your favorite listings generally returns an error message that the function is not available. Maybe 10% of the time it will work properly. I reported this information to the dealer and they just tell me to install the latest software updates. I have kept them up to date and the problems still exist. I have owned Acura’s for over 10 years. The new RDX has the most advanced features I’ve seen but the software/firmware has way too many bugs. It is discouraging because the car runs well."
