"I started the car and had my foot on the brake. With my foot still on the brake, I shifted to D. When I lifted my foot off of the brake, the transmission shifted back into park. This was also true when I tried to shift into reverse or neutral. Thus, I was unable to move the car at all"

"I believe this was the problem. I'm not fully familiar with the words you're using. However, I did experience a total shut down of my car. It came to almost a complete stop. Fortunately I was in a residential area, going uphill and I was able to pull the car to the side of the road (glad I learned to drive w/o power steering). All the lights and messages on the dash board were flashing repeatedly. If I have been on the highway I probably wouldn't be here. I had the car towed to the dealer. They were very closed mouthed about what had happened and blamed it on the transmission (which has always had a nasty 3rd gear). It hasn't happened since. However, I am concerned about the car and am considering buying another car beause of not being sure the dealer has adaquately identified the problem and fixed it. Have others had similar problems? I'd like to know."
