The Audi A4 remained highly competitive. In fact, this A4 was nearly everything a compact sports sedan should be. It has a solid, high-quality feel and the interior is exquisite. Agile handling makes it fun to drive and the ride, though quite firm, is supple and controlled. The cabin is quiet unless you ask the turbocharged four-cylinder engine to work hard.

Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Road Test

The Audi A4 remained highly competitive. In fact, this A4 was nearly everything a compact sports sedan should be. It has a solid, high-quality feel and the interior is exquisite. Agile handling makes it fun to drive and the ride, though quite firm, is supple and controlled. The cabin is quiet unless you ask the turbocharged four-cylinder engine to work hard. Otherwise, it sounds civilized and the seamless eight-speed automatic transmission is terrific. Fuel economy is a very respectable 25 mpg overall, which is made more impressive, given its popular Quattro all-wheel-drive. For a punchy higher performance A4, you'd have to opt for the supercharged V6 S4.

If you want more cargo space, the Allroad is essentially a wagon version.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Audi A4 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"The car was sold to me with bluetooth which apparently does not mean bluetooth connection to music player (e.g., on ones phone) only blue tooth phone connection. This was only explained to me before I drove off. Clearly an attempt to upsell their obsolete navigation package, but the only thing they sold me on was buying another luxury brand next time. #NeverAgainAudi"

Aran A., MA (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Not up to date"

Anonymous, AL (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"At times the Navigation system does not provide correct current location (shows me in a different part of the state), or is confused when providing directions. I have 're-booted' the system several times when the problem has occurred but it does not resolve the issue. After a day or so of driving, the Navigation system self corrects. In the meantime I used goggle maps from my phone, if I need directions."

Anonymous, NY (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The system worked manually; however, it wasn’t able to process verbal commands accurately. Fixed by dealer under original warranty. Dealer was quite helpful in ameliorating the problem. gh"

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Audi A4 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Automatic climate control

"Doesn't cool quickly or stay cool"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Condenser

"it took two trips to the dealer to be fixed properly. The condenser was improperly installed."

Robert A., VA (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Heater system

"The car has an auxiliary heater to help warm interior at start-up. Great feature, bu the way. A recall with a potential problem required that it temporarily be turned off, using the driver interface system which is easy. Replacement was covered under recall, but had car out of service for one day. I'm happy with the resolution, but it was a problem."

D M., WI (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.

What Owners Say

Cooling fan

"Manufacturer unable to repair, turned off the system and extended the warranty for an additional 4 years. Not impressed - concerned over potential fire, safety - extended warranty does not cover concerns of the lack of quality and concern for the safety of the consumer."

Anonymous, ON (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"There was a safety defect in the electric after run coolant pump for the turbo. The manufacturer issued a recall and the dealer disconnected the power to the pump but did not have the parts to replace the defective unit. I had to wait six months before the new parts arrived."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Water pump

"This problem is covered by a recall order. It is scheduled to be fixed next Monday"

Robert A., VA (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Squeaking

"Squeeking When backing out of the garage first time each day"

Anonymous, IL (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Breaks squeaked when extremely cold and damp. Had repaired."

Anonymous, IN (2015 Audi A4 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Brakes squeak . Frustrating Annoying"

Michael W., NY (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

What Owners Say

Turbo or supercharger

"failure with VERY expensive replacement"

Anonymous, NC (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"turbo is known defect to stop engaging at ~60,000 miles. I had aroumd ~50,000 when mine went. I had an insurance/exteneded warranty which saved me $1,000. Bought from CarMax"

Anonymous, CO (2015 Audi A4 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.
