Simply put, this version of the A6 is a joy for both driver and passengers alike. Its potent supercharged V6 engine and slick eight-speed transmission deliver invigorating and effortless power. Available permanent Quattro all-wheel-drive assures traction and contributes to wintertime security. And yet, at 22 mpg, fuel economy is quite commendable. But that's just the beginning.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Audi A6 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Antilock system (ABS)

"ABS & 21 other warning lights came on all at once. Audi replaced the ABS system and returned car. Warning lights came on within two days and breaks were pulsating. returned car Audi replaced wheel sensor. Car still had pulsating breaks and Audi replaced break pads. Break light came on and Audi has car to fix warning light"

Richard W., MA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"Needed to be replaced"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Audi A6 Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Normal routine brake wear

"Needed to have brake pads and rotors replaced at 70,000 miles. Very expensive on an Audi A6. Cost was $600 at a repair shop; half of what the dealership wanted to charge."

Mark O., MA (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"It is unconscionable to require a routine front brake job at 30,000 miles that costs over $1000!"

Don B., NV (2014 Audi A6 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Premature brake wear

"Needed to replace all 4 rotors and pads, $2,000"

Anonymous, CA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"Just seemed early and expensive to have the front brakes replaced"

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Audi A6 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"This is the first vehicle I've had that needed breaks relined at 54000 miles"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Audi A6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The original front brake pads and rotors and rear brake pads were replaced at 35,000 miles in 2017. I now need new brake pads and rotors in the front after 22,000. These were aftermarket parts sold as OEM equivalent by a third party repair center. The auto drive system may be causing faster brake wear."

Nick U., OH (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)
Pulsation or vibration

"directly related to scorched rotors."

Bill R., CO (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)
Rotors

"Front rotors warped in first 5000 miles; dealer / Audi took responsibility"

L E., CA (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Rotors rusted despite regular usage. Audi refused to replace them under warranty"

Anonymous, MA (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Severe shimmy when braking after only 22,000 miles. Had to have the rotors replaced as they had deposits on them. Problem arose after driving in the mountains in Colorado. Dealer said need to downshift (??!) and provided a video. I believe there is a design flaw as I happen to know 3 other people with the same issue, Audi A6 or A7 that needed rotors replaced before 25,000."

Stephen R., CO (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"The brakes vibrate as I begin to brake the vehicle. If more pressure is applied, the vibration usually stops. Sometimes the vibration feels slight, and at other time it is bothersome."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Twice the rotors have become "scorched"; warranty replaced them once."

Anonymous, CO (2014 Audi A6 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"They wear out quickly and cannot be resurfaced. You must replace the rotors which is expensive."

Anonymous, GA (2014 Audi A6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Second time in ownership I've had to replace scorched rotors - Front."

Bill R., CO (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"same as the brake problem I already responded about"

Mark O., MA (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Rotors warped around 60000 miles, they were expensive to replace. Dealership stated they could not be turned by design."

Martin S., WA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)
Squeaking

"Squeaking from steering column"

Mark B., CA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"Brakes squeak. I was told that it's just a proble with Audis and then take dust. No solution provided"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Audi A6 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"At around 20K miles the car would make a terrible squeaking when just coming to a stop. It was fixed by changing the pads"

Anonymous, MA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"The brakes have squeaked almost everyday I have owned the car---57 months. I have complained about it over and over again only to be handed a poorly copied page that mentions the car was made for the AUTOBAHN. I remind the dealer twice a year that I do not live in Germany."

Gary M., MI (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Right front brake started squeaking in it's second year. Dealer checked it and solved issue by cleaning disc and pads. Squeak returned within a couple of months. Dealer took another shot at cleaning which was a total failure. Had my son-in-law who is a mechanic replace rotor and pads which has solved the problem."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Breaks start squeaking at 47.000"

Anonymous, MN (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

Fuel System

Check engine light, sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor), emission control devices (includes EGR), engine computer, engine computer, fuel cap, fuel gauge/sender, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel leaks, stalling or hesitation.

What Owners Say

Emission control devices (includes EGR)

"TDI has a well documented problem. I feel that the dealer was complicit. Soon after purchase the dashboard reporting system kept indicating problem. After several attempts to make adjustments with no luck the dealer loaned me a new A6 gas vehicle for about two weeks. Claimed that had to bring in factory technician to fix problem. Then when they returned the car claimed that the problem was that the computer was programed for European emission standards and now was corrected. I have not had any c"

Anonymous, MA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"check engine light came on, dealer found it was due to carbon build-up on EGR valve which they then replaced."

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"The car was subject to the Volkswagen emissions recall scandle."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"The VW/Audi Diesel scandal"

John P., CA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"3.0 dirty diesel; it has had the upgrade which reduces mpg somewhat. I will get a rebate"

John M., ON (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"Diesel recall"

Anonymous, CT (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"The 3.0L TDI has had a consistent problem where the Check Engine Light comes on due to a failure of the EGR valve. This has been repaired multiple times but continues to be a problem. It was also a subject of a recall which repositioned the EGR to a different place in the exhaust system but it failed again."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Audi A6 3.0-L V6 diesel)
Fuel injection system

"the repair was covered by warranty. The dealer noted that this was due to bad fuel, however I only use the top graded fuel at Costco."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Audi A6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Fuel pump

"Issue was recalled by Audi"

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"The automobile became immobile after the fuel pump failed to continue working while I was driving and just made a right-hand turn. The vehicle died while driving and I was forced to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road and call for a tow truck. The dealer said the fuel pump needed replacing."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Fuel pump failure caused Electronic Power Control (EPC) light to come on and shortly thereafter, the engine repeatedly stalled. The engine would restart after about 30 minutes, but stall again a short time later. Misdiagnosis of EPC failure required return visit to dealer, which subsequently determined it was the fuel pump."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)
Sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor)

"Part of the emission problem"

Anonymous, MA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"This car has a diesel engine. A NOX sensor in the exhaust system became erratic on April 11 causing the check engine light go on (and off several times). It will be replaced next week."

Anonymous, TN (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"This problem did not occur in the past 12 months - it occurred several years ago."

Anonymous, TN (2014 Audi A6 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"Needed replacement 2 times"

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Audi A6 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"This Diesel has had several problems with sensors since the first year (2014). The last was repaired about 6 months ago and there have been no further problems."

Anonymous, TN (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

What Owners Say

Bushings

"I didn't realize there was a problem until I brought it in for annual service. The dealership let me know that the control arm bushings (and the sway bar) needed to be replaced. It was only an issue because it was an unplanned $3000 repair."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Audi A6 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Electronic or air suspension

"Corrosion on wiring led to a steering controller malfunction covered under warranty"

Caroline G., GA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)
Power steering pumps and hoses

"Multiple failures of power steering system. Driver information center would display Power steering failure, vehicle unsafe to drive. Steering system failed multiple times. After Audi corporate said they would allow me a new vehicle since Audi service could not fix the problem repeatedly and I talked to a dealer to look at their inventory, they reneged and said they couldn't do anything. Contacted the Attorney General and after multiple back and forths between the AG and Audi, the AG finally sent a letter to me saying they could not do anything since they were a mediator, but to keep the records in case decide to sue Audi because they provided conflicting statements."

Anonymous, (2014 Audi A6 3.0-L V6 diesel)
Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

"Power steering stopped working. Rack and pinion needed to be replaced. It was repaired under warranty"

Robert B., FL (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Your questions are out dated because they ask about old fashion hydraulic power steering. Mine like many newer cars has electric power steering. No hoses, belts etc.. The entire power steering rack needed to be replaced. Approx $2,800."

Anonymous, CT (2014 Audi A6 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"First this car has electric steering not a hydraulic system. What was described to me as faulty was therack. Some self contained part. The cost to fix tab the dealer was an outrageous $3,600! And its still not right!"

Anonymous, CT (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"I have the top down view camera system and the camera that is built into the mirror started to flicker in and out and is now no longer functioning. I assume this is due to my car's higher mileage and a loose connection but it doesn't impair the vehicle's ability to function too badly so I have not gotten it fixed as of yet"

Andrew P., GA (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"Camera stopped operating and techs were unable to determine cause. Replacing the battery and two wiring harnesses didn't fix the problem. Left the vehicle with dealer for a week and they replaced a connector fixing the problem."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Audi A6 3.0-L V6 diesel)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Far too complicated. Over-informationed"

Anonymous, UT (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"Navigation system kept forgetting where it was. It would be close, but a mile or two off. Multiple trips to Audi for software updates and some hardware replacement. Now working much better, but not flawless"

Anonymous, CO (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)

"GPS has never worked properly. It does not do voice direction well, sometimes freezes up. We gave up on this and use cell phone which works perfectly."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Audi A6 Unsure)

"Preset channels keep disappearing."

D F., PA (2014 Audi A6 2.0T 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Volume control keeps jumping back to low when trying to adjust the volume up. We did one $300 upgrade, but that didn't seem to solve the problem. They now think something may have been spilled on the volume knob. Radio volume is useable if you turn the volume knob very slowly."

Anonymous, PA (2014 Audi A6 3.0T 3.0-L V6 supercharged)
Software update fixes

"Fix for 3.0 Diesel caused problems in gauge for Ad Blue. Car spent 5 weeks at dealers while they waited for help from Audi. Dealers was great -- they gave us an A6 loaner -- but had to go in a couple of times and was very inconvenient."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)

"MMI malfunctions shutting down the cruise control making it unusable until you stop and shut off the car. Then it can reboot and is functional MMI doesn't pair well with my Google account and the updates are outrageously expensive per year for updates to navigation and to make operational. I'd much rather have Apple Car Play"

Anonymous, WA (2014 Audi A6 3.0-L V6 supercharged)
Engine mounts

"Need new engine mounts at 87,000 miles. Expensive -- over $1,500 -- and a problem I never experienced before on Japanese cars that we had for 150,000 miles."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Audi A6 3.0 TDI 3.0-L V6 diesel)
