EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

What Owners Say

Charge connection problem

"May 2024 software update caused unable to Level 2 charge. Took 3 weeks for BMW to authorize a new CCU. I was not the only person with this problem."

Anonymous A., NJ (2023 BMW i4 M50 Electric)
Charging app problem

"Could only charge on 120v and not 240v at home because BMW did an update that caused the problem for about 5 months."

Anonymous A., NM (2023 BMW i4 eDrive40 Electric)
Charging port problem

""Last week, the charging port door would not unlock. I could not open the door up to charge. I took it to BMW service and they replaced the assembly behind the door; it was not unlocking.""

Anonymous A., WA (2023 BMW i4 M50 Electric)
Won't charge at home

""When I attempted to charge the car with the BMW provided cable/charger it failed multiple times on a single day. I had enough battery to take it to a nearby BMW dealer to have it checked out. They kept the car for about a week and decided it was an error that they couldnt replicate even though there was an error code in the cars computer. They stated it didnt appear to be related to the cable/charger. They finally reloaded the software and gave me the car back. To date, it has not reoccurred. I did have a loaner during the repair interval.""

Anonymous, IL (2023 BMW i4 eDrive40 Electric)

""Charging on Level 2 chargers would often "interrupt" and stop. The Level 2 chargers were over-current tripping. This happened over a period of 3 - 4 months. I took it to BMW service and they weren't able to reproduce it, but then at the last minute they discovered a bulletin on new charging software. They loaded the new software and I haven't had any problems in the past year.""

Anonymous A., WA (2023 BMW i4 M50 Electric)

In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

What Owners Say

Android Auto

""On a few occasions, including a 3-day trip the car refused to pair with Android Auto (Google Pixel 8). Resetting both the phone and car interface did not resolve the issue. On a few other occasions the car rendered the right hand drive version of the Android Auto interface where the menu and primary screen were rendered on the right side of the vehicle.""

Anonymous A., ON (2023 BMW i4 M50 Electric)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

""The bluetooth connection to our iPhones is occasionally dropped and they need to be reconnected, and there is an occasional problem using Apple Maps.""

Anonymous, CA (2023 BMW i4 eDrive40 Electric)

"On a few occasions the car is unable to pair with a Google Pixel 8."
