2015 BMW X1 Reliability - Consumer Reports
With its sporty handling, sharp steering, quick acceleration and compact dimensions, the X1 brings more sport than utility to the SUV equation. BMW's smallest SUV is also the least expensive model in the automaker's lineup, but that's not to be confused with it being inexpensive. A relatively low stance makes the X1 appear more like a tall wagon and helps give it handling worthy of a sports car.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2021 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 BMW X1 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Weather seal towards the front of the sunroof came loose causing wind noise when drive at interstate speeds."

Anonymous, IL (2015 BMW X1 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Squeaks or rattles

"Suspension creaks when driving on incline with uneven surface and for me, this is everyday that I pull out of my driveway. Have reported at service appts but it is always dismissed as an issue and they cannot seem to reproduce the noise at the time. Not sure why BMW will not just perform a lube job. For a time, my seat belt buckle creaked like something was loose inside. This just went away after several months."

Anonymous, CA (2015 BMW X1 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The BMW X-1 is noisy. Road and air noise make the interior uncomfortable from a sound standpoint."

William H., WA (2015 BMW X1 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Wind noise

"Result of the weather stripping issue"

Anonymous, IL (2015 BMW X1 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Sounds like a window is cracked when they aren't. Seems worse wit front windows. This has been the case since I purchased and I have learned to turn the music up, or actually crack the window."

Anonymous, CA (2015 BMW X1 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"extreme wind noise"

Lawrence S., CA (2015 BMW X1 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Lost all systems"

Anonymous, WI (2015 BMW X1 xDrive28i 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"This vehicle was purchased in Germany as a Military Sale US spec vehicle. In 2015 when US buyers purchased the vehicle they received a coupon to upgrade the factory installed "communications box" to a 4G compatible model. I took delivery in Germany and used the vehicle for 3 years. When my vehicle was imported and delivered to a dealership for it to be reset to operate in the US the upgrades were not completed. Ultimately, it took 1 year to repair the vehicle and over 3 months with a loaner from the dealership. The cost was eventually covered."

Anonymous, GA (2015 BMW X1 xDrive35i 3.0-L 6 Cyl turbo)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"It's pairing with the main driver of the car, but not the secondary pertson."
