The X3 offers the versatility you need from SUVs with the sportiness typical of a BMW. The engine is smooth and powerful. Handling is agile. Steering and braking are excellent. While previous versions of the X3 had a punishing ride, this one is better, though still choppy.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

“Very nice design in and out - great ergonomics! Interior dash and steering controls are not intuitive and seem randomly placed. Snappy ride, that handles well! Fun to drive when not in the shop being repaired! On the negative... seems always to be in the shop for service!!!”

TROY P., MN (2008 BMW X3)

“The X3 has the complete package of styling, handling, acceleration and mpg. It is comfortable and handles as if it was on tracks. Cargo space is is great for it's size and when fully loaded it does not effect the mpg or the handling.”

BILL F., CO (2008 BMW X3)

“It was European pickup. I special ordered the car with everything I wanted, no extra bells & whistles & saved $8-10,000 dollars. It's very dependable, has great pickup. I can fit 15 bags of mulch in the back!”

Anonymous, MD (2008 BMW X3)

“CR moved my X3 to worst of the worst reliability so I am expecting trouble”
