Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2010 Buick LaCrosse owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Display screen difficult to see

"Display screen is difficult to see when backing up. Picture not bright and crisp"

Anonymous, NY (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.0-L V6)

"There is no adjustment to accommodate sun glare, rendering screen useless"

Bev S., WA (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.0-L V6)

"Difficult to read - dark. Clock malfunction while changing to day-lite saving time"

Anonymous, CA (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL 3.6-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

"Radio presets do not remain intact. Change whenever it wants to. Clock is always 3-4 hours off dependent on DST. Cannot be adjusted. Dealer says I can get a software update with no guarantees. Given all the other problems I will not invest more money in this vehicle."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.6-L V6)
Display screen goes blank

"You can't see the radio numbers, stations, anything."

Anonymous, AR (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL 3.0-L V6)

"The display screen goes blank is the same problem as engine computer. ( I thought that the display screen was related to the car's computer, but I realize that it's part of the infotainment unit. The problem was that several times a week, when I started the car, the screen was blank. It would remain blank for 10-30 minutes and then the data would return. My mechanic said that it probably would be complicated to fix (although he did have the equipment to work on car computer systems) and suggested that I leave it and see whether it got worse. The problem has gone away and I haven't experienced it in the last 1-2 months."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Buick LaCrosse)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Navigation system would always default back to Washington DC not our local area. The system was replaced under warranty"

Steve M., WA (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.6-L V6)

"Clock would not change to /daylight savings time. As clock was integrated to all of the electronic systems, gps, satellite radio etc had to replace the whole system. Car out of warranty but they did give us a deal on a rebuilt system. Still costly"

Kit D., OH (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Buick has issued a recall to repair the problem but the time changes to six hours ahead of reg. time when you crank the car. The navigation system freezes and the screen goes to a warning screen and turns music off. Very annoying"

Anonymous, NC (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS)

"Would not save addresses to memory"

Anonymous, CA (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL 3.0-L V6)

"replaced module"

Michael A., OH (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.6-L V6)

"System would not hold any of the settings for more than one year. Recall was slow coming and agency was willing to replace at my expense for that year"

Bev S., WA (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.0-L V6)

"Fault of provider - not Buick"

Anonymous, CA (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL 3.6-L V6)

"Navigation system would not hold information and would reset to Washington DC addresses and display"

Anonymous, IL (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.6-L V6)
Radio

"Intermittent blackout failures"

Anonymous, MN (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL 3.0-L V6)

"Initially, clock malfunctioned after DST and could not be adjusted to maintain the correct time. Eventually, the radio began malfunctioning and required several rounds of button-pushing before it would work properly. Recall repair fixed all problem"

Melanie W., MI (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL)

"radio had a factory recall. went to the dealership, they updated the software, all is well"

Anonymous, AZ (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.0-L V6)

"Can't get additional favorite stations list when I click the button."

Irvine B., NB (2010 Buick LaCrosse CX 3.0-L V6)
Overheating

"This was caused by canister leaking"

Michael H., MI (2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS 3.6-L V6)

"First problem with cooling system started when it was 15 months old. Towed at least 4 times starting at 15 months thru this year. Still having issues with overheating and cooling fan continuously running. Have had several battery issues which I would attribute to this problem of fan not cutting off when engine is shut off. The 15 mo. incident was due to the reservoir tank, which the dealership said was a common problem with the 2010 model. Another time, the plastic hose from the reservoir melted from overheating. The cooling fan issue started in 2018 and continues to be an issue. Do not plan to buy another Buick!"

"A Backup warning sensors went out and caused an alarm system to start bonging about once each minute to alert me to a malfunction. There are 4 sensors on the rear bumper. The Buick dealership, upon analysis, did confirm that one of the 4 sensors was bad and needed replaced - for over $700! It could not be individually disconnected, but had to be replaced. I had to have it done in order to stop the incessant alarm. Pretty outrageous!. For reference my other vehicle, 2019 Infiniti QX60, did not come with this same type of backup warning sensors. I realize the benefit of this safety feature, so I had it installed (aftermarket). Cost (for a full set of 4): $400."

Had the computer reprogrammed to the remote. Keyless entry never worked after that. Have bought two new remotes and that did not solve the problem. The car will not start now unless I put the fob in a holder underneath the removable cup holder. Also, the starter was replaced and that did not correct the remote start feature. I am assuming it is a computer issue. I also believe the computer is the cause of the transmission issues because when it won't shift out of the lower gear, I can stop and restart the engine and it seems to reboot because the transmission performs correctly afterwards."
