Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Road Test

Cadillac's SRX luxury SUV’s handling is fairly agile and its ride balances tautness with suppleness. The extremely well appointed cabin features very supportive front seats.

But significant problems cut into the appeal. Driver visibility is difficult, thanks to thick windshield pillars and a small rear window. Added for 2013, the CUE controls are complicated, confounding, and confusing, substituting a finicky touchscreen and flush touch surfaces for most normal knobs and buttons. The rear seat is also fairly snug.

Ron W., TN (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

"The dealer replaced the component with the wrong one, had to make two trips in to repair"

Robert P., WA (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The CUE display screen froze up and stopped working. The dealer wanted $115 to look at it and up to $1500 to replace if that is what they determined was needed. I found one online for $100 and with the help of youtube was able to replace it myself. Found that the small ribbon cable had evidently dried out and was broken halfway into. That explained why it would light up but did nothing else and remaind frzen on the one display."

Larry F., NC (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"Touch screen would not always respond properly."

Gary G., OK (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"Freezes, flashes, locks up. Still does not work. I have had several hard resets. The CUE system is the worst."

"Cue system touch screen froze up. I had it fixed at dealership under warranty"

Anonymous, OH (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The CUE system has frozen and cannot be used for anything. The cost to replace this system is approximately $3,000. The entire CUE system is unusable. We are able to listen to one radio station only. We cannot access the GPS, climate control, Pandora, Phone, etc."

"replaced 3 times"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The display screen operates with a technology that is much less than any smartphone on the market, it is not good at all. We replaced the screen at the dealer and the new one works, but it does not work perfectly: the touch sense is mis-aligned slightly, overly sensitive, and the interface between screen and processor is slow, so when selecting an item, it oftentimes has a time-lag between touching the screen and the selection highlighting, and then the highlighted selection is oftentimes the wrong one. This is distracting to driving and ineffective in using the device."

Anonymous, SC (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The CUE system touch screen no longer responds to touches. The gel used inside the screen has dried out and has lost its touch response. The CUE screen looks like a spider web and is unresponsive to any touch commands. It is just frozen on the last screen it was on and you can not use any functionality of the car that is tied to the screen and CUE system. Cadillac is aware of this issue and they will not fix the problem. They want to charge customers $1500 to replace the entire console."

Anonymous, (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The display screen stopped working and had to be replaced."

Anonymous, OH (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The screen froze completely. I took it to the dealership and they had to replace the entire display. Fortunately, it was covered by my extended warranty or I would have had to pay around $1500. I think I only paid about $50 deductible."

Anonymous, (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The CUE dashboard system has frozen to the extent that nothing but one radio station can be accessed. The GPS, audio system, climate control and weather are completely non-operating and will cost $5,000 to replace. This is a known issue but Cadillac/GM won't do anything about it."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"When I bought the car in 2017 we had to wait for them to repair the display screen because it wasn't working. In 2020 the screen started freezing again and kind of shaking, taking super long to transition between screens and then just finally not transitioning. When the screen goes down on things you are unable to do much. It controls the temperature, the defrosters, the radio, the bluetooth, etc. The car drives but it's not the same experience. It's like driving with the AC stuck on or off and on AM instead of FM, stuff like that. It's like driving an old Honda."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The freezing started about 8 months after we purchased the vehicle. It would go in and out for a few months. We ordered a new screen on line and had our mechanic to replace it. The dealership wanted 1300.00 to replace it, we paid 200.00 on line and our mechanic charged us 200.00 to install the new unit."

Anonymous, TN (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"The CUE froze and stop working. It was quite expensive to replace, but apparently it is a known problem for Cadillac. I have wonderful dealer (Cannon Cadillac) because they replaced the CUE at no cost to me even though my warranty had expired"

Willie K., FL (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

Hardware replacement

"The CUE unit stopped working. It wouldn't respond to touch. Virtually 90% of the vehicle's controls are impacted by the system. Dealership initially wanted to charge $$$ to replace the unit. An internet check revealed a failure history. Unit was subsequently replaced without cost."

"I only had the car about one year when the screen display touch screen froze/was inoperable. The screen also cracked about half way. The dealership said the screen would have to be replaced and cost about $1500. The iphone charger also quit working."

Anonymous, (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"I love cadillacs CUE system, but when it went out shortly after we purchased the car, it became totally unusable. The dealerships want somewhere from 12 to $1500 to replace the entertainment system. After several months of research I was able to find this screen to replace myself that only cost a $137. Now it's working just fine and I couldn't be happier except for the potential cost that I would have had to pay a dealer for."

"Screen would freeze then would work. Started out as a now and then concern and got worse over time. Got to the point the touch screen was inoperable. We ordered a new screen and had it installed at a audio repair shop. The dealer would charge 1000 to 1300 dollars the audio shop charged us 300 dollars. After replacement the screen worked fine."

In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The "infotainment" screen froze, could not be fixed with standard reps. Cost is over $550 to replace so it remains inoperable. Thank God for Waze. Also driver's side rear view mirror is discolored and dealer wants over $500 to replace it. I understand the roblem with the infotainment system is widespread."

Headlights

"The low beams sometimes called the daytime driving lights are of little use at night. Ligting has become very very poor and I have to use the high beams or else I have to slow down 15 to 20 mph below the posted speed limit in order to maintain a safe driving environment when using the low beans away from city street lighting My research showws that this has been a problem for the SRX models from 2010 to 2016. and yet Cadillac refuses to acknowledge this problem even though thousands have complained. Research shows that if this major repair is performed at a cost of $1500 to $2500, depending on where your located and the dealer you use, the same thing reoccures due to the replacement components are also faulty."

Larry F., NC (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"Headlights fade. They are not replaceable by the owner. I had to drive with brights on for 6 months, and now those have faded as well. I need to make sure I'm home before dark. It's several thousand dollars to repair because of tires have to be removed and car put up on a lift. Stupid location! Supposed to be LED and not die out. I will not look for a vehicle that I can replace the headlights on"

Anonymous, LA (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"Low beam headlights hardly light the road making it difficult to see the side of the road. High beam work great. Evidently this was a design flaw with this model."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Cadillac SRX None 3.6-L V6)

"Low beams are dim. There was a class action suit in California and so we got a notice. We took the car to the dealer within 3 weeks of the notice. The service rep said they didn't have the parts yet. We came back several months later after our vacation and were told that the deadline had past. The rep had not documented our visit and denied saying parts were not available. The service manager told GM that the parts were available at all times the car was eligible for repair including when we came in. I was insulted that the dealership was actually calling me a liar and I was disappointed in GM that they did not make this issue a recall. Only owners in several states were eligible and only for 3 months. This is a safety issue that GM knows about and it covers the model years for the SRX that are similar to mine. Just changing the bulbs will not solve the issue. It is a problem that has to do with how the headlight module was put together and the sealant that was used. I believe that in the suit GM denied that there was an issue even though there were a good number of complaints about the issue. As I recall, the issue is exacerbated in states with hotter temperatures and more rain. The sealant was changed in either the last year of production of the SRX or the first year of the XT5."
