This sedan is wonderfully luxurious, with a spacious, well-appointed cabin and a roomy trunk. But the car lacks the silky ride you'd expect from a big Caddy, and though it handles well for its size, it doesn't have the finesse or brawn of the better German and Asian competitors. A 3.6-liter V6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission comprises the powertrain.

In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"It is awful. We stopped taking this car on trips because the navigation system sends us weird ways, constantly is "updating" and "re routing" us in directions we know are wrong and is unreliable. It was a nightmare in NYC! We now use our Lexus for"

Diane P., MA (2014 Cadillac XTS Base)

"entire screen system requires you to either take eyes off road or stop by side of road to adjust--for age demographic it is stupid of Cadillac to put this in!"

Anonymous, GA (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)

"too often we have to pull over on the side of the road to execute a command whether i is speed of fan or setting a radio station--alot of touch screen which is not intuitive--"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"The CUE system is a bad ergonomic design and is poorly implemented. The touch buttons are too closely spaced making it likely you will hit the wrong one. Especially a door panel at the bottom has a touch strip near where numerous other buttons live. When reaching for these buttons most of the time the door responds by opening. The GPS problem is another poor implementation issue. It gives you no help with input by suggesting completion options. It is error intolerant, causing the entire entry to be wiped out because of these input errors. The system will use freeways and Interstates if at all possible, even at the expense of shorter secondary road options. The system allows only accepting no freeways at all (zero) or everything it can find. In short, the car is wonderful to ride in, but the CUE system alone is enough to make me not buy another vehicle with one."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)
Radio

"Volume became uncontrollable"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"Had repeat problems with volume . It would not be responsive to attempts to turning it down when it would have a sudden increase in volume"

Anonymous, OK (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)
Software update fixes

"Collision warning, parking assist issues required several trips to dealership to resolve. It was corrected."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"Pretty much non functional!"

Anonymous, WA (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)

Tire pressure monitor

"I cannot get the tire pressure to display on the dashboard. I took the car to the dealer and they also could not get the tire pressure to display. Also, nothing displays unless the engine is running - this is a gross waste of gasoline!"

Howard C., NV (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)
Warning lights

"Right side "blind side" detector fails approximately 10% of the time. Since there is no error code stored, Cadillac says there is no problem that the operation of this system is normal. This has caused a dangerous situation on a couple of occasions when I wanted to move into the adjacent lane"

G B., OH (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

Anonymous, MA (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)

"Driving to family dinner the rear suspension just dropped to the stops. Pounded so hard we could not drive it. Auto is flat unreliable"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"Second time it has failed NO Cadillac warrenty on either repair. Cadillac did not stand behind their product or service"

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"The rear suspension failed while I was driving. The car felt like I was driving on a brick road. When I finally stopped, I saw that the frame of the car was no longer above the tires in the rear but was midway down the wheels. Calling a tow truck, I learned that I needed a flatbed, and when that finally arrived, it couldn't be pulled up onto the truck without dragging the bumper along the ground and probably pulling it off the car. We tried towing it from the rear and had the same problem. Four hours later, I ended up driving it at 20 mph all the way to the dealer 20 miles away, only to find that their lot was closed. What a nightmare! If this car is built in such a way that it cannot be towed, what's the solution to that? The dealer had none."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac XTS Unsure 3.6-L V6)

"Air ride compressor failed. Replaced under warranty"

Thomas W., TX (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)
Shocks or struts

"It took three trips to the dealer to find and repair an improperly installed strut causing a thump over bumps"

James M., FL (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"One of the shocks locked causing a horrible ride. Dealer replaced it under CPO Warranty."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)

"Rear Shock failed - cost to replace $943 - for only one - feel dealer ripped me off!"

James P., FL (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"We had to replace the front struts @ i think about 20,000 miles, which paid for our 5 year extended warranty. And we had to replace our brakes (which was covered). The glove compartment (where the CD player is) latch does not work properly until we take it to the dealer and it just fell out into the passenger floor board. We love the car (best ride of 30 makes and models we tested and powerful with regular gas). It is big enough and feels safe."

Anonymous, WI (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)

"Two garages said the shocks needed replacement. This seems like low mileage for replacement."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Cadillac XTS Unsure 3.6-L V6)

"Heard a noise. Dealer said I needed new strut. They put one on in the rear. A few months later I experienced a similar noise in the front. Dealer said they put a new strut on the front. I'm still hearing metal-on-metal noise when I get a bump in the road. Very annoying"

Anonymous, SC (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"Right rear shock failed"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)
Wheel balance

"The 20 inch wheels cannot stand up to day to day driving . I replaced two wheels at considerable cost within two months of buying the car and recently needed to have all four wheels straightened because the were bent from day to day driving. This is clearly a design flaw that GM refuses to acknowledge."

Anonymous, WA (2014 Cadillac XTS 3.6-L V6)

"The touch screen is a mess. Very difficult to use. It is distracting to try and do anything while you are driving because, if your hand even hovers above something the screen will interpret that as a command. Cadillac screwed up big time with the CU"

Diane P., MA (2014 Cadillac XTS Base)

"Lines through the screen Difficult to use Takes long to respond"

Mark M., CA (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"Hard to use. Have difficulty in trying to change from one option to another. I consider it dangerous to take your eyes off the road to change from one option to another. I miss the old knobs that were in prior Cadillacs"

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Transmission began to Jerk when shifting. Cadillac said it worked as designed. Cadillac said it was safe and reliable to drive. The transmission failed 1000 miles from home. Trouble getting Cadillac to fix it in a timely manor. I didn't buy it at the repair dealer."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Cadillac XTS Base 3.6-L V6)

"Cadillac kept stating my transmission was "working as designed" even though making very loud and jerking shift into 4th gear. Then it did it one more time a 1000 mi from home and locked up. I had to pay for repairs, even though problem began long before warrenty expired. It is doing it again, but according to Cadillac is "working as designed." If so, they need new designers and engineers. That standard statement is ridiculous."
