Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep has issued a rare "Do Not Drive" warning to owners of over 225,000 cars, trucks, and SUVs. These vehicles, from the 2003 through 2016 model years, should not be driven until owners get a free airbag recall repair completed.

The automakers says that dealerships will tow these vehicles in for service, free of charge, or send a certified technician to your home for a free mobile repair. Alternate transportation may also be available.

    The recalled vehicles are:
    • 2005-2015 Chrysler 300 sedans
    • 2007-2008 Chrysler Crossfire coupes
    • 2007-2009 Chrysler Aspen SUVs
    • 2003-2010 Dodge Ram pickup trucks, including 1500, 2500, 3500, and 4500 models
    • 2004-2009 Dodge Durango SUVs
    • 2005-2011 Dodge Dakota pickup trucks
    • 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum station wagons
    • 2006-2015 Dodge Charger sedans
    • 2007-2009 Dodge Sprinter vans
    • 2008-2014 Dodge Challenger coupes
    • 2007-2016 Jeep Wrangler SUVs
    • 2006-2009 Mitsubishi Raider pickup trucks. (These are based on a design from Dodge.)

All of these vehicles have airbags that could spray metal shards throughout the passenger cabin—a potentially deadly outcome from a supposedly lifesaving device. High humidity, high temperatures, and time can increase the risk. The faulty airbags, made by the now-defunct Takata Corporation, have been associated with 28 deaths and more than 400 injuries in the U.S.

Although Stellantis first recalled some of these vehicles in 2015, the automaker says that nearly 225,000 of them still haven’t had their airbags fixed. A recall repair is free. If you own one of these vehicles, contact your local dealership or call Stellantis at 833-585-0144.

Over 67 million faulty Takata airbags have already been replaced in vehicles made by 34 brands, an effort that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has called “the largest and most complex safety recall in U.S. history.”

So far, several automakers have issued similar "Do Not Drive" warnings for vehicles with Takata airbags, including BMW, Ford, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, and Toyota.
