Ford Bronco Sport and Escape Recalled Due to Risk of Fire
A fuel injector in the 1.5-liter engine may crack
More than half a million 2020 to 2023 Ford Escape and 2021 to 2023 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs equipped with 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engines are being recalled to address a potential issue with a cracked fuel injector that risks fire.
Ford has not issued instructions to stop driving vehicles under this recall.
Ford is not aware of fatalities related to this condition, but a timeline filed with NHTSA indicates four possible injuries and 43 legal claims.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 19, 2022.
The Details
Vehicles Recalled
• 2020 to 2023 Ford Escape with 1.5-liter engine.
• 2021 to 2023 Ford Bronco Sport with 1.5-liter engine.
The problem: A cracked fuel injector could allow fuel or fuel vapor to contact a hot surface and potentially ignite.
The fix: Dealers will inspect the fuel injectors, update the engine control software to include fuel injector leak detection, and install a drain tube, free of charge.
