Ford and Lincoln Recall 123,000 More Trucks and SUVs for Brake Problems

A brake fluid leak could make these F-150s, Expeditions, and Lincoln Navigators harder to stop

Ford and Lincoln are recalling more 2017–2018 Ford F-150 pickup trucks and Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs because a brake leak might make them harder to stop. The automaker already recalled nearly 500,000 older trucks and SUVs for a similar issue in 2022 and 2020. Only vehicles with 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 engines are included in the recall.

    MORE ON RECALLS

The problem is due to a leak within the brake master cylinder, a vital part of the braking system. If the master cylinder leaks, it may not have enough hydraulic pressure to activate the brakes and stop the vehicle. If this happens, a brake warning light and message may display on the gauge cluster behind the steering wheel, and a warning chime may sound. Drivers may also notice that the brake pedal feels “spongy” or that it takes more effort or distance to stop the vehicle.

To fix the issue, Ford dealerships will replace the brake master cylinder and, if necessary, the brake booster. As with all recall repairs, the fix is free of charge. In documents provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford says that there have been no injuries or crashes related to this most recent recall.

Ford F-150, Ford Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator Recall Details

Vehicles recalled: Ford F-150 trucks, Ford Expedition SUVs, and Lincoln Navigator SUVs with 3.5-liter Ecoboost engines manufactured between Feb. 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017

The problem: An issue with the braking system might cause fluid to leak from the master cylinder front wheel circuit to the brake booster. If this happens, the vehicle may become more difficult to stop.

The fix: Ford dealerships will replace the brake master cylinder and, if necessary, the brake booster. The repair is free of charge.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Ford at 866-436-7332.
