Ford and Lincoln are recalling 1,456,417 cars, trucks, and SUVs to fix a backup camera that may show a blank, distorted, or upside-down image.

    MORE ON Car RECALLS

    Recalled Vehicles

    • 2015-2018 Ford Edge SUVs
    • 2015-2017 Ford Expedition SUVs

    • 2016-2019 Ford F-550 Super Duty pickup trucks

    • 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator SUVs
    • 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC SUVs

Many of these vehicles have already been recalled for the same problem but will need to return to the dealership to have their backup cameras replaced. Those new cameras are not yet available, so Ford and Lincoln will mail two letters to owners. One will let them know that their vehicle is being recalled, and the other will let them know when to take their car to a dealership for a free fix.

The problem is due to a manufacturing error by the supplier that made the faulty backup cameras. In documents provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford says it is aware of 18 crashes, 195 owner complaints, 44,123 warranty claims, and no injuries related to this recall.

Ford and Lincoln have already recalled nearly a million vehicles for backup camera issues this year alone, and many more before 2025. The automaker has been working with NHTSA’s Office of Defect Investigations to address the issues. See CR’s past coverage:

Ford and Lincoln Backup Camera Recall Details

    Vehicles Recalled
Ford: 2017-2019 Econoline vans; 2015-2018 Edge SUVs; 2015-2017 Expedition SUVs; 2015-2019 F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty pickup trucks; 2016-2019 F-550 Super Duty pickup trucks; 2015-2019 Mustang coupes and convertibles; 2019 Ford Ranger pickup trucks (manufactured before Dec. 21, 2018); 2016-2019 Transit vans; and 2015-2018 Transit Connect vans
Lincoln: 2015-2017 Navigator SUVs and 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC SUVs

The problem: An authorized change to production methods at a supplier meant that important parts on the backup cameras could corrode, leading to distorted or blank images.

The fix: Ford and Lincoln dealerships will replace the faulty backup cameras, free of charge.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Ford at 866-436-7332.

NHTSA campaign number: 25V572. Ford’s own number for this recall is 25S89. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 25V270.
