Ford Mustang Recalled Because Front Seat Belt Anchors Can Corrode

This issue is especially a concern for 2015-2017 Mustangs driven on salted roads

Ford Motor Company is recalling 2015-2017 Ford Mustang coupes and convertibles due to the risk that front seat belt anchor pretensioner cables can become corroded, weakening or separating the cables, thereby reducing the protection provided by that important safety feature.

    More on car recalls

The problem stems from the seat belt anchor assembly being exposed to corrosive salt water in the carpet—a particular concern for drivers in snowy areas. The recall affects more than 330,000 Mustangs built from Feb. 14, 2014, through Oct. 2, 2017, when a different part was introduced.

Dealerships will inspect the anchor cables, looking for signs of corrosion, and replace both front seat belt assemblies as needed. They will also trim away carpet and underlayment that may contact the cable.

Ford is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this condition.

Ford is notifying owners in October of the risk, and it will send a follow-up letter when a repair is available, urging owners to schedule an appointment at their local dealership. Based on documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, dealerships expect to have a fix available in the second quarter of 2026.
