Porsche Cars and SUVs Recalled Due to Headlight Problem
The low beams may be misaligned due to a missing screw cap.
Porsche is recalling 193,000 Cayenne and Macan SUVs, Cayman S coupes, and Panamera sedans from the 2003 to 2020 model years because the caps that cover the low-beam headlight horizontal adjustment screws are missing. This can lead to the headlights being improperly adjusted, and thereby fail to comply with federal standards (FMVSS 108).
“While horizontal headlight adjustment was possible on older vehicles, it has not been the case for a number of years,” says Jennifer Stockburger, director of operations at Consumer Report’s Auto Test Center. “Even if the caps are not in place, it’s not something that is intended to be adjusted. Only vertical adjustment is allowed.”
Improperly adjusted headlights may not illuminate the road properly or cause a glare to oncoming drivers, which can increase the risk of a crash.
With many recalls, there is a risk that the models have the cited problem. In this case, documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that every model included in the recall action has the defect.
The Details
Vehicles recalled: Certain 2003-2020 Porsche Cayenne, Cayman S, Macan, and Panamera vehicles.
The problem: Because a screw cap is missing, the headlights may not be properly aligned. As a result, the road may not be properly lit and oncoming traffic may be subject to glare.
The fix: Check the installation of the caps on the left and right headlights. If no caps are fitted, they are retrofitted.
How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Porsche’s customer service at 800-767-7243.
NHTSA campaign number: 22V656000. Porsche’s number for this recall is ANB4.
Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.
If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
