The world needs more small trucks. They're easier to park and maneuver and they cost less to feed than their full-sized siblings. This version of the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon represented the first redesign of the model in 11 years. How to put this nicely? We really want to like this truck. We just can't. If it's any consolation, this Colorado replaces a version that was an also-ran right out of the box.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Seems at times there is a little hesitation when pressing on the gas pedal looking for that extra power. Maybe typical of a V-6"

ROGER Q., NC (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"down shifts to easy in cruise control"

RON J., WI (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"braking and steering"

Anonymous, WA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Getting used to the automatic gear changing plus manual mode was not so easy. Accelerating and decelerating causes some over-revving if not done correctly."

BRENDA M., CA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Handles good. 7,00 lb towing capacity a reason I bought.Good off-road. I own a farm."

K K., IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Engine and transmission pairing is not good. Acceleration from low speeds (20-40 mph) is terrible. Have to really push the pedal down to pick up speed quickly."

THOMAS S., IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"excellent value, handles much like a sadan.....qualith inside and out..acceleration is outstanding...we love this truck"

SAM T., PA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"It handles great, but the acceleration is horrible. It is never in the power band. It is always in a higher gear than it should be so it is always bogging down when I try to accelerate at a moderate speed. In order to slightly speed up, I have to floor it to make it down shift and then it accelerates appropriately. This is my only real complaint but it is so big that I almost wish I had not bought it."

Anonymous, AL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"the truck does have a problem with acceleration. it isn't quick. takes a while to get back up to hwy speed after stopping/slowing down."

Anonymous, GA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The transmission will not downshift without really pushing the accelerator which makes it act doggy because in to high of a gear."

Anonymous, IN (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The transmission shift points are erratic. When attempting to accelerate it waits waaaay toooooo long to shift down. When it finally does shift it jumps down three gears so you are at 5,000 rpm and still not going anywhere, but making allot of noise."

F J., CT (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Seats and seat adjustments; sufficient power/acceleration."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Fuel economy is very good for fairly heavy 6 cyl truck. About 17 in city and 24 on highway @70 mph. Transmission is slanted toward economy. It shifts to higher gears at low speeds. Only disconcerting feature: when you accelerate quickly from steady slower speeds the transmission shifts to lower gears and engine revs more than expected. Makes it hard to accelerate gradually. Probably a tradeoff of economy gearing."

SAMUEL N., KY (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The transmission/engine tuning make the shifting of the transmission very strange and inappropriate.Shifting into a higher gear and being hard to shift to a lower gear when accelerating. Occasional hard shifts. It's obvious the engine/transmission tuning was biased to far toward gas mileage and away from driving performance."

L P., AL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Everything is good."

BARBARA L., SC (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"it is a 6 speed manual and 4 cylinder engine works very ,would not want to pull much"

Gerald B., TN (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Very good handling and excellent AWD performance. Excellent brakes. The 3.6L engine has good power, however it needs to be driven aggressively to perform well because otherwise the transmission makes it lug. Should have been geared lower."

William G., PA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Acceleration is slow, almost need to floor vehicle to accomplish movement. Vehicle was purchased due to need for tow vehicle behind Motorhome. Definitely meets this requirement"

Anonymous, AL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The vehicles V6 engine is much more responsive then I expected when I first purchased the truck. It has been driven in the mountains in Colorado, interstate traffic and commuting to work. The excelleration for merging and passing traffic is great! And when cruising the engine is quiet!"

Anonymous, IA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"love the acceleration. Transmission struggles at times to shift properly"

Ronald L., OH (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The V6 offers great acceleration when merging onto highways or when passing. It handles much better than any truck I have ever owned."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"the engine is the V-6 with 305 HP, but the transmission very quickly shifts to the highest gear and when Truck is accelerated, it bogs down until a lot of gas is added. Have taken truck back to CHevy dealer but they claim this is how it works. Very poor acceleration due to remaining in high gears"

Donna C., TX (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Plenty of power and acceleration. Somewhat of a quite cabin while driving. Comfortable to drive for being a midsize truck."

William H., NY (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"NO acceleration. Always in a cruising gear so if you need to speed up just a little, you have to floor it to make it downshift so you can speed up. HORRIBLE driving experience. 300 hp and it won't go unless you floor it. Totally ruins my drives which is sad because it is otherwise a great vehicle."

Anonymous, AL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Handles and drives very well for a truck."

Anonymous, IA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"After I bought the truck, the transmission had issues. It would not properly downshift. I took it back to the dealer, they worked on for one week and said it was good to go. Took it home and the same problem continued. Took it back the dealer hooked up the computer and sent the data to Chevy tech. They said the transmission was not downshifting at low speeds. I checked the internet and a lot of folks have had the same problem. I have taken it back 5 times and now they say it is a one-off probl..."

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Hard to get into and out of. Not enough seat adjustment options"

THOMAS S., IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Seats are not comfortable on longer rides"

Anonymous, SC (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The climate control is crazy. You can set the temp to 72 and one minute it's heating (even if it's 85 outside) and the next it freezes you. Keep having to mess with the number to try to get the desired temp. Seats are OK, but tend to put pressure on my legs near the knee. The seat has a lot of adjustments, but none of them solve the seating position."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The seats lack cushioning and getting out you tend to catch the plastic on the side of the seat. If they came out with new seats I would pay to have them installed."

Anonymous, NH (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Seats are very comfortable and it has a very nice ride for a 4x4 pickup."

DENNIS H., MO (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Has leather seats with heat but no in-seat AC. Seats are uncomfortably hot in Texas, and rarely would I use heated seats. Would prefer cloth seat option or AC in seats for this trim line."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Seat adjustments; quiet; smooth ride."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Amazing Vehicle. The styling is perfect. Just a little smaller than a full size vehicle which is amazing. The climate control is perfect. The ride is great and comfortable."

BARBARA L., SC (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"I drive to work dark early in the morning when it's about 74 degrees outside. My AC is off but every 5 minutes or so it comes on anyway making me too cold. It stays on for about 3 minutes then turns back off. Going to have the dealer look at it but I bet it's designed that way."

REAGAN D., TX (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Very comfortable crew cab. Good seats, climate control, and sound system. Very quiet."

BEN J., UT (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Too high to get into. Liked the older Colorado size."

DONALD F., NC (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"everything is great"

JIM H., TN (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The power seats are limited to up/down, forward back, and lumbar support. Manual control on seat back position but no control on seat tilt so it sometimes feels like one could slide out of the seat"

Anonymous, ON (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"It is hard to get in and out of the truck. I thought I could adjust but it proved harder than expected. It is a suppose to be a smaller truck but it seems full sized."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Seats are underwhelming. Should have opted for the leather seats which are, reportedly, better."

Anonymous, ON (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The seats are uncomfortable in that they cut into the bottom of your thighs. This vehicle has a noise at the drivers ear that may be coming from the rear half door that the dealer has not located to date."

Anonymous, IN (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Good: Seat is comfortable, climate control is OK, noise level is OK -- basically, I have no complaints about the interior and my interaction with it. Bad (sort of): Even the ride is much better than the old trucks I've owned in the past, but I guess I'm used to driving my little Civic SI and the ride and handling of the Colorado is a long way from that. On the other hand, it is a truck."

WILLIAM D., OR (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"low roof line as I need to raise seal to highest level to have clear vision over the dashboard. By raising seat to max height, this causes a head knocker entering or exiting the truck"

Donna C., TX (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Bad - seats have piping that did into your legs. Not enough control of raising or lowering seat height"

Anonymous, MO (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Truck rides very well on interstate, quiet and without a lot of up/down motions. Front seat cushions should have better side support."

Samuel N., KY (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"My 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 is like driving a luxury car. The ride and comfort is amazing! You would not even know you were in a truck if you were blind folded!"

Tammy F., NY (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Seats are stiff, feel more like a bench seat. Noise level is acceptable for a truck, not great. Ride is OK, better with weight in the bed."

Daniel M., FL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Seats seem fine -- I find the driver's seat comfortable. Noise is OK. Ride could be considerably better, but after all, this is a TRUCK."

Anonymous, OR (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Very comfortable and quite"

Ray G., NY (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Smooth ride almost like a car. Don't hear any road or wind noise. Added aftermarket exhaust and still barely hear it inside."

Anonymous, AL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"1. Height of truck, short wife has trouble , will have lowered 2 inches 2WD. 2. Clothes hangar behind drivers seat, hard to access and will not hold over 4-5 shirts from dry cleaners. 3. Like to carry magazines, newspapers to coffee shop, no pouch behind drivers seat only passenger, no thought by GM there."

Frank C., CA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Only dislike is getting out my shorts pant leg catches on seat recline lever. Have been temped to saw it shorter to stop it’s snagging on shorts"

Mark N., MN (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The ride and noise levels in the cab are quite good for a truck. The seats, well the only good thing I can say about the seats is that the upholstery is durable. I have never driven a vehicle with such a short bottom seat cushion. Plus the HARD plastic seat bolsters dig into my legs. I’m 6 ft 3 and heavy, these seats are made for a 5ft 6 150 lb person with a narrow frame. I totally hate theses seats."

William G., PA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The seating is very comfortable, but the steering wheel does not go up as far as it use to on older models and this makes it difficult to get in and out of the Colorado."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The seats are very uncomtable on trips ,wife does not like to ride in passenger seat."

Anonymous, NH (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"This vehicle has the leather trimmed seats and they are extremely comfortable, something I was not expecting in a pickup truck. The noise level in this vehicle is very good for this type of vehicle."

Anonymous, WI (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Great ride. Good power."

DANIEL N., NY (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Interior was all hard plastic surfaces. I expected better quality"

Anonymous, IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"purchased this vehicle from Carmax and it had 6800 miles on the Odometer. I feel I save a lot of money over purchasing a new 2016, saving satisfied!"

LEONARD G., IA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Bought during a very bad winter and got a good price compare to True Car on Consumer Reports site or the Edmonds website"

ANDREW P., MA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"It has a lot of good features, but the price of this fully equipped truck was very high and I do not feel that any car or truck is really worth the price they are asking today."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The onstar navigation system that came with the truck is the worst thing ever!!"

Joseph B., AL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"I bought the basic Work Truck but it had all the features that I normally use"

Anonymous, GA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"This truck has paid for itself many times over! The price was right and we use it for everything! The towing capability and roominess in the bed make it so easy to transport anything! The Extended cab is large enough for two people to sit in comfortably!"

Tammy F., NY (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Great vehicle and extras for the price."

Anonymous, IA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"Smooth form."

WILLIAM E., ON (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"For a "smaller" truck, it is too large and takes up too much space in the garage ! The main interior problem is the totally un-useful design of the inside of the doors. There is no place to place maps or water bottles or other items."

Anonymous, KS (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Looks like a full sized truck but fits in car sized spaces."

DANIEL N., NY (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"From day one, compliments come whenever I am in my own driveway, at the market or a gas station. I love the color and the way the front end looks and enjoy washing it just to enjoy owning it."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Taken as only styling, it's OK. But it is vastly LARGER than it needs to be to haul 1/2 ton. My prior truck was a 1979 Chevy LUV 4X4, which by today's standards was a primitive lump of iron. But it was only as large as it needed to be to do what it was meant to do. Before I bought the Colorado, I looked around for a new model "small" truck -- there aren't any. The Colorado line doesn't even have a "standard" cab. A smaller truck, with even the same engine, would get better gas mileage and"

WILLIAM D., OR (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Easy on the eyes, to look at."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"I like the way it looks. As soon as I saw it I knew that this was the truck for me."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Modern and very good looking style."
