The Silverado hasn't changed much since its 1999 introduction and doesn't compete well with more modern designs. Its highlights include a selectable four-wheel-drive system with a full-time mode and a high payload capacity. But its powertrain isn't as smooth as some models, such as the Toyota Tundra's or Nissan Titan's. Handling was ungainly, and the ride is stiff. Interior quality is below par.

    Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

"Very easy to handle, good road vehicle."

Anonymous, TX (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"My dad bought it in 2001. Although he didn't go very far he would drive it on his country property which had trees and ditches. We got it from him around 2010 when he could no longer drive. Since then my husband has driven it almost everyday to work and on camping trips. It has been very reliable and has been very handy in helping people move furniture. It has very good acceleration and handling but I would not say it's that comfortable to ride in."

Anonymous, TX (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"decent acceleration, handles very well, 4WD works well"

    Ward V., IL (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"There is plenty of leg room which is a must for me."

    Clifford M., NV (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"We bought this truck new and it has been a great vehicle. However we have had to repair the track for the passenger seat adjustment twice. The seat would slide back or forward with each stop or acceleration."

    Gayle J., TX (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"sits up high, comfortable cloth seats, easy to see out windows and use roll down, good truck sounds!"

    John B., NC (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Seats are very comfortable and highway noise is minimal."

Anonymous, NM (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Front seats large good lumbar and arm support for long road trips"

Anonymous, NC (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The bench-seat design is quite comfortable and versatile. Road noise is low, even at freeway speeds, although newer cars are even quieter. The suspension provides good, comfortable, and safe handling. Even though I have over 200,000 original-owner miles on this truck, I only recently had the front suspension bushings replaced; the shocks are still original from the factory, and the front break-pads have only needed to be replaced once."

    Robert E., OR (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

    "Great seats"

    Michael S., AZ (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

    "Good seats Smooth ride"

    "Very comfortable ride."

Anonymous, IL (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

    Ricardo K., MA (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"This truck is continually having problems involving everything about the vehicle. This is the noisiest vehicle with respect to noise from around door seals. Noisy from start."

    Ronald L., VA (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"I have a difficult time adjusting the passenger seat to make it comfortable for my back. The ride is stiff and I can feel every bump on the road."

Anonymous, CA (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"17 yrs old and still rides and handles great!!!!"

Anonymous, NC (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Leather heated seats very comfortable. Power adjustments provide high level of ability to adjust both the seat and back to your personal likes/needs."

Anonymous, OH (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The seats are large and comfortable. The heated function still works. At 18 years and 162000 miles it may be a little noisy now but it is is more comfortable and has a better ride than a 2015 model that I recently drove."

    James R., TN (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

    What Owners Say

"I feel I have received my money's worth."

    Clifford M., NV (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"A pickup is an expensive purchase. This vehicle has had many repair issues. The drive train has held up BUT it has had failed brake lines that were a serious safety issue and expensive to replace. I don't feel that I got my money's worth with this vehicle. It was never abused."

    Lawrence A., MD (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The vehicle has been very reliable and economical. The V-6 gas engine still has plenty of power for both passing and carrying moderately heavy loads. Gas mileage has dropped from an overall 21 mpg to a current 19 mpg. Compression still ranges from 160 ft-lbs to 163 in all cylinders, I change the engine oil when the dash-light comes on - usually at about 7,000 miles, and. although oil pressure has dropped from about 50 lbs to 45 lbs, it uses no oil between changes"

    Robert E., OR (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"It's lasted 26 years and counting. Versatile, great for hauling, low maintenance."

    Scott C., KS (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"This has been a great truck for the price. Bought it new and only wish I had gone a little bigger at the time."

    Guy D., WA (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"With just a little bit of care, it just keeps on running."

Anonymous, SC (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"have not spent much on repairs, no outstanding failures."

Anonymous, TX (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"This truck has been very reliable over the years and when new the price was extremely better than today's trucks. I may keep the 2001 forever."

Anonymous, KS (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"We bought it new in 2001 and it's been reliable and hard working ever since."

    Scott C., KS (2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)
