The Silverado is an easy truck to live with, thanks to its comfortable ride and reasonable floor height. Access is fairly easy, as is cargo loading. The truck also offers generous towing and payload capacity. A six-speed automatic transmission aids acceleration and fuel economy, while selectable full-time four-wheel drive adds safety in slippery conditions.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Mary M., IL (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"truck rides like a car easy to drive also in bad weather with a turn of a switch your in all wheel or 4 wheel drive"

Anonymous, CT (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Handling is very good. The 6-cylinder engine is somewhat underpowered for a vehicle that size."

Anonymous, TN (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Strong engine"

Anonymous, NC (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Back end gets very loose at hiway speed"

Anonymous, WA (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"It is fun to drive"

Anonymous, MN (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Drives great"

Anonymous, MA (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Extremely rough handling (dips and dives) on bad roads unless carrying heavy loads. OK when loaded as a truck should be."

Mark F., NY (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very good acceleration and handling."

Peter K., IL (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Turning radius too great."

Andrew M., TX (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Drive smooth, handles good and has good acceleration."

Kirk L., MO (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The acceleration is good. Not so much that is really throughs you back in the seat but enough to very confidently go from a stand still and also pass traffic on the road. However, I wish it had a little more torque for work purpose. I have noticed that this truck naturally has an engine breaking stance. Other trucks naturally want to propel you forward but I kind of like it that I need to give it gas for it to really start moving forward. It feels a little safer and like I am can be in better control of the vehicle. This is just a personal observation and opinion. I wish the turning radius was a little smaller. I think the other trucks I have driven have a little better radius. Over all I feel very safe and in control in the truck."

Tyron T., UT (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"I love the acceleration and its response. It is a very fine drive."

Melanie F., FL (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"dives great good acceleration, and handling"

Glenn G., FL (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"It is a good tow vehicle with ample power and also doubles as a second vehicle for is. Gas mileage may not be the best, but we didn't buy it for that. It does what we need it to do."

Ray O., MB (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Drives like a car. Very comfortable. Accelerates well. Handles very well except for it’s wide turns."

Anonymous, ON (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Has a smooth acceleration, easy to pass another vehicle, and still drives without issues."

Connie C., GA (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The 5.3 engine is a great performer."

Michael S., OH (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Acceleration is very good with 5.3L V8. This crew cab truck is okay going down the highway, but with all long vehicles, it is difficult to maneuver in tight spaces such as parking garages, strip mall parking lots, and other small parking spots."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Motor and transmission are well matched to the truck. Acceleration is adequate, shifting is generally smooth, although it tends to become jerky or surge during downshifts. Handling is very good."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"It needs faster acceleration."

Anonymous, AZ (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Rusting after 4 years"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

Joshua G., MI (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The seats were comfortable on a long 16 hour trip."

Anonymous, LA (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"4.8 engine under powered and bad gas mileage"

Anonymous, CA (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very comfortable"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"I still have to contend with road noise. Honda's are perfect in every other respect."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Seating is brilliant. I can drive for hours without feeling fatigued. I am able to find a nice comfortable position to drive and ride in. The ride is very good for a truck. I do, however, wish the leather seats were perforated to allow for better breathing of my back on long hot days. The road noise is louder than I initially thought as I drive it more. The AC is nice and cold but has a hard time cooling the whole cab so the back seats with my kids and car seats are hard to control the temperature. It has probably been the most comfortable riding truck I have been in. As part of the comfort, I wish the menus to access different vehicle info was easier to get to then having to toggle through one info at a time."

Tyron T., UT (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The seats are wonderful not being a big person they fit you good. They are overall comfortable for everyone even bigger people and it has a ton of power and it is reliable"

Anonymous, MN (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Drives like a car. Very comfortable, reasonably quiet inside for a light truck."

Anonymous, ON (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Way to noisy (to much road noise at hwy speeds)..."

John W., SC (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very comfortable ride for a pickup. We tow a trailer and towing a 5000 lb. trailer is a breeze."

Arnold B., CT (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Don’t like the headrests. Bad angle."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The seats and ride of my truck are better than any car I have ever had"

William B., IL (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The seats need some more padding"

Randy T., TX (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Seats are long and are able to be set high because of good headroom giving a chair like seating very conformable for long legs.Road noise is my main complaint. Ride is very smooth better than Ford F150's that I previous drove for 20 years."

Karen C., ON (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Noise level is too high"

Andrew M., TX (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The ride is very good, however the noise level is too high. The noise level is awful on the highway."

Peter K., IL (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Seats, AC, & seat heaters are very comfortable. Ride is good too for a 4 wheel drive pick-up."

Anonymous, WA (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"We have made several long trips and this vehicle is wonderful for comfort and ride. It is a little noisier than I would like, but not bad."

Melanie F., FL (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very comfortable"

Anonymous, NY (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"I have the manual lumbar support driver seat, and it works well. The seats in this truck are very comfortable. The ride not smooth unless you are carrying a load, as the suspension is designed that way. The excessive road noise coming from the rear tires comes mainly from the lack of adequate insulation, and the positive ventilation vents behind the back seats in the crew cab."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)
