The Silverado is an easy truck to live with, thanks to its comfortable ride and reasonable floor height. Access is fairly easy, as is cargo loading. The truck also offers generous towing and payload capacity. A six-speed automatic transmission aids acceleration and fuel economy, while selectable full-time four-wheel drive adds safety in slippery conditions.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"This is no performance vehicle. We have the 5.3 L engine. It is tuned for brochure bragging rights, not for truck duty. The torque peak of the engine is high in the rev range and the transmission shifts too often when going up grades on the highway. We cannot achieve the EPA mileage estimate when unloaded, despite putting the proverbial egg under our throttle foot. Mileage unloaded is about 18 highway/14 city. Loaded (combined weight ~11000 lbs) we get 11-12 mpg."

Roy W., MD (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Smooth ride. Good accelration"

Robert M., NY (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"accelerates strongly, handles well, very stable and smooth"

Brian E., IN (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"When I originally test drove the vehicle, it was a solid ride. It had a smooth acceleration and could get moving when asked. It has a towing package included and is longer than most typical trucks because of the extended cab along with an 8 foot bed. The steering is tight and responsive which impressed me."

Randall C., NC (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"This can handle the highway! When power is needed for passing, it is there. Handling is great for the most part. A very heavy load in the truck bed will impact handling."

Sharon W., NC (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Acceleration usually has some hesitation and then will kick in usually a few seconds"

Anonymous, AZ (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Silverado calls for tuneup at 90,000 miles. At 70,000 mileage dropped and ran rough. Had tuneup Handling and acceleration good"

Anonymous, KY (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The six speed automatic transmission and the 5.3 engine are a great match for economy on the road as well as plenty passing power when it is needed."

James Y., LA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very smooth handling."

Mary S., NY (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Handles very well for a light truck. Seat sits too low for good visibility."

Clarence W., AZ (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

Anonymous, CA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Like Silverado, but front end is too high and too broad to see when pulling in to a parking space and other maneuvers. Second, back end slides in wet weather or wet roads when accelerating or stopping. Happens quite often and therefore, you must be alert when driving in wet conditions."

Linda K., OH (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Turning radius however is horrendous making parking a challenge."

Brian B., MI (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The cylinder deactivation is very clunky and irksome. In it's quest to save fuel, the transmission is always eager to upshift at every opportunity, so it's never in the right gear when I want it to be. There's very little engine braking when coasting down hills, and the manual shifter is cumbersome and annoying to use. With a manual transmission, this truck would be nearly perfect."

Bryan S., CO (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The 5.3 L V-8 moves the vehicle very well even while hauling/pulling a load. It's a great truck. I've had no regrets about buying this vehicle."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The turning radius is not good. Often when making tight turns, such as into and out of parking stalls, I have to back up and try again one or more times."

Anonymous, UT (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Smooth, quick acceleration with the smaller V8 engine. Smooth transition fron 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive. Suspension great for hauling loads or pulling a boat or trailer."

Anonymous, IN (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The seats are easily adjustable to any driver and are heated and cooled."

James Y., LA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Comfortable riding vehicle"

Carl T., PA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Seats are OK for comfort, but could be better (ie. more adjustable)."

Anonymous, MN (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Hard to vacuum and side of seat showing wear with low miles on truck"

Anonymous, OH (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"the seats are very comfy, but the material on them picks up every piece of lint hair and dirt and doesent want to come off."

Kent M., MI (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Seats could be more comfortable"

Anonymous, GA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Comfortable, quiet and very smooth "heavy feeling" ride"

Brian E., IN (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"somewhat rough ride. smooth on the highway"

Gary K., PA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Amazing comfort for the long haul trips. Fatigue is reduced due to smooth ride, comfortable seats and cruise control."

Sharon W., NC (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very Durable."

Stephen D., CT (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Not really a comfort issue, but the 5.3 engine that drops 4 cylinders in "economy" mode is junk. Gets no better mileage than a 2001 truck I had with a straight 5.3 & it isn't nearly as smooth."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"This is not a fancy pickup. It is basic. For the level, it is comfortable and smooth ride. Outside noise is handled well for the basic design."

Randall C., NC (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"All terrain tires are loud. Will purchase all weather when originals wear out. Seats are ok but get fatiguing on long trips"

Jerry G., MN (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Long 10 hour drives a breeze...easy, comfortable. Long wheel base probably the most significant contributor. Handles nice on bad roads...anti-skid wonderful."

Anonymous, ME (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The seats are adequate but not exactly comfortable. Very basic adjustments could have been improved upon."

Anonymous, CT (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very comfortable seating in the front area. A bit cramped in the rear."

Mary S., NY (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"The driver/passenger armrest is very cheap, any pressure on them results in a breakdown of the armrest. I had the driver door panel replaced while under warranty because the driver armrest failed where your elbow/fore-arm rests on the armrest, I have a habit of pushing down on the armrest while driving to shift my self for comfort, the armrest has failed again."

Dennis H., WA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Very quiet, smooth and comfortable driving truck. Only complaints are seat head rest too far forward with no adjustment. No "dead peddle" for left foot to rest on at same height as right foot. Left leg gets cramps after a couple of hours of driving."

Peter R., ON (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Once again, the drivers and passenger seats both have full adjustments. They are heated and ventilated. The noise is about as expected, not as quiet as our best passenger cars, but acceptable for a vehicle like this. Same for the ride, we tow a 5000 lb trailer and may have the bed loaded with 1000 lbs of cargo. Rubbery ride when empty, somewhat better when loaded."

Roy W., MD (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Excellent acceleration for a PU with adequate sound dampening at highway speed."

Brian B., MI (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Seats are comfortable and soft. Quite for a pickup. Ride is average for a pickup."

Anonymous, VA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Ride is a little rough. Seats are fine. Black fabric shows dirt and dog hair. Quiet for a pickup."

Gary K., PA (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Seats quite uncomfortable on trips. Longer than about two hours and I am squirming."

David F., MI (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"This truck rides well when it's hauling a load. The leather power seats fit us like a glove. You feel very safe while driving this vehicle."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"My Silverado is very comfortable"

Anonymous, WI (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"This is very easy to drive all day. The seats don't hurt my back and the arm rests are in pretty natural places. There's not a lot of road or wind noise at highway speeds. It's a perfectly comfortable truck to drive anywhere in any conditions."

Bryan S., CO (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Ride comfort is fine. Noise is fine. Missing raised pad for left foot to rest on. Dead peddle for left for. Left leg gets cramps because cannot be rested at same height as right foot on accelerator. Very uncomfortable. Currently rest foot on hood release handle"

Peter R., ON (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"This vehicle was a great price in 2013 at the time of purchase, and has proven to be a reliable and great to drive vehicle every day, even when driven in some very harsh conditions."

Thomas C., MT (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"It was the truck which had the features I wanted, like integrayed traiker brake control and the pruce was right"

Wilhelm R., MN (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Good work horse does what I need it to"

Anonymous, BC (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"I got a great deal when I bought it and it is still holding a good value as i am always getting calls from dealers that want to buy my truck at a good price."

P S., OH (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Basic 1/2 ton, two door cab and eight foot box truck with 6 cylinders, but it has adeauate chrome, air conditioning and electric locks /windows to dress it up a bit. The power and load capacity are sufficient for my needs. There have been no mechanical issues, and other than routine maintenance and new tires, I have not spent anything for repairs. From a distance you can't tell the difference between this basic model and much higher priced LT versions. I am particularly impressed that after five New England winters there is not a bit of rust visible. My 1977 GMC Sierra started rusting after one year and my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado after three years. Since this was the last year for this model, I also got a good price from the dealer. I paid about $20,500 whereas the comparable 2018 version is close to $30,000."

Anonymous, CT (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"It's a good value, and it's a work truck"

Bernie R., MI (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Great work truck, no mechanical problems."

Stephen D., CT (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)

"Good truck for the money works like I need it to"

Anonymous, BC (2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500)
